“Looks like he fucked you up pretty bad though,” one of the males mocked. “I’m here for what is mine, and then we will go. Don’t make me hurt you,” Nyx growled. “Everyone has seen the bounty on her, Nyx. I could smell her blood the moment she stepped foot in Velorim.

You don’t think I was just going to let that go, did you?” All around me, bodies were thumping and crashing, hisses and snarls danced around with their threats, but my vision stayed black, my eyes too heavy to open and see the horror for myself. “You’re wrong about her. She isn’t who you think—” “Shut it!”

the female—Alerice—shouted, interrupting Nyx. “I could feel her magic the moment she walked into our lands. All it needed was its source to come over the threshold and that would activate the magic that has been dying. There is no denying it, Nyx.” I heard Nyx growl in fury. What did she mean by she could feel my magic? I didn’t have magic in me.

The only person I knew who claimed to have magic was my Queen, and even then, I was skeptical. There was a groan. “What’s the matter, Nyx? Did our little umbragore friends tear you up too bad?” Someone grabbed me by my hair, a whimper escaping my chest, as I felt my body get thrown over someone’s shoulder. I was too weak to fight, going in and out of consciousness. “Put on your cloaks,” she hissed. “The forest thins out where we are headed.”

“Give me back what is mine,” Nyx demanded. A heinous chuckle echoed around the room as one of the males spoke. “What does the Dark Prince want with her anyway? It’s three against one. You won’t be able to get her from us. Just leave, Nyx.” “I can’t do that,” he growled. Did he say dark prince? Ugh my head hurt so bad; I couldn’t think straight. Maybe I was hallucinating all of this.

My breathing was slowly becoming harder to do, each inhale more difficult than the last. Whoever was holding me shifted their body to the left, as if dodging something, and that was when I felt us slam into the wall. I groaned from the hit. “Alerice!” Nyx snapped. “Take the prince out,” Viktor hissed. “With pleasure, Viktor,” she purred. It sounded as if two feral beasts were caught in a battle, their growls and snarls screaming through the air.

Relenting, dark clouds rolled through, shrouding the land with its eerie darkness. Lilah knew that it wasn’t smart to be out in the dark, even if the sun was just hiding behind the curtain of the storm, but still, something seemed to fascinate her about the forbidden Dark Lands. Father wouldn’t be pleased to hear that she had ventured so far off from home, especially so close to dusk, and now with this storm looming above, she knew he would come searching for her soon if she didn’t show up for supper.

Fear was not something that came to the surface; curiosity triumphed any fear that should have coursed through her veins.
