A Whisper Of Blood – Eevy A

he searched for the right word, “demise.” Not the right word. A sudden cold shock zapped through my body. He had brought me here to… apologize? I swallowed the lump that formed in my throat at the sorrow of my friend’s death. I stood here, where her headless body lay cradled in my fireball’s lap. I kept my eyes off the mossy agate floor, unable to look where her blood would have leaked. “I’m rather busy,” I forced my voice to drip with swaggering confidence, “if you don’t mind, an apology is not necessary,” I wanted to fall to the floor.
I wanted to weep for days and days at the nearness of where my friend had taken her final breath… Where her spirit had been snapped in two. The king kept his jubilant smile on his face, regardless of my swaggering tone, “I want information.” “No,” I crossed my arms, stepping toward the king and into his enormous shadow. Both Kian and Gylo reached for their weapons, but their father held up a hand to stop them.
The smile dropped from Galen’s face, “After she attempted to poison me, it was evident what the peacemakers were set out to do,” the king’s voice was neutral. “When I couldn’t get word from Theon, I knew his peacemaker had been successful,” he waited for a reaction from me. I tore my eyes from his face, finally sweeping the room where I stood. Hues of gold and bronze dappled the room in different forms. Tendrils of ivy climbed the golden marble walls. I winced at the leaves that held echoes of my Gaia’s last breath.
Everything in me wanted to shatter as I forced a neutral look onto my face. “The small one… Idris?” Galen spoke again. I ground my teeth hard, hearing her name come out of his mouth. A slight, questioning finger plucked at the mating bond, likely in response to the rising anger from within me.
I ignored it, flashing my teeth wildly at the king. “Idris resigned…
The King of Nature’s chamber had an air about it. Gaia stood at the King’s dais, smiling up at him. Everyone could feel, sense… taste the ripeness that seeped from the chamber walls. It wasn’t unusual for Gaia to serve the king his evening meal. What made tonight so different was who she brought with her. The brunette one called Idris stood at her side, sweeping her eyes over the king and his twin sons, Kian and Gylo.
Shouldn’t they know bringing her would look suspicious? Shouldn’t they know they would shatter the kingdoms, forcing an ally into an enemy? Gaia set the platter on the dais with a nod, eyes trailing the homemade bread. Sourdough, kneaded and risen into a perfect, plump loaf of death. It contained an extra ingredient. An ingredient so strong that smelling it would seize every muscle in your body. An ingredient meant for the king. Life.
Love. The very essence of all that mattered rested on a slender thread. A delicate balance dictated by choice. Kian reached for the bread instead of his father. A simple action, really, but one that would rattle the stars. Swift and unforgiving, the moment Kian fell to his knees, Gylo was upon them. There wasn’t even a moment to blink—to share a final glance between lovers before Gaia’s head was severed, her blood splattering the mossy agate floor.
A heartbeat ago, she breathed. A blink ago, she smiled. A breath ago, she stood. But now, she lay in two pieces at her lover’s feet. 1kitap1.com/en Part One Blood’s Awakening 1kitap1.com/en Chapter One Selene “Cut it,” Idris said, a bubble of heat rising in her tone.
“Are you sure—” “Cut. It,” she repeated, this time pinning me with her dulled ashen eyes. I held her brunette hair in my hands, running my fingers down the buttery length of it. Her locks fell below her shoulders now, longer than she’d ever kept it. Through the mirror, I met her eyes. A spark—no, not even a spark, but a whisper of fury surged there. She nodded to me as I brought the blade to her hair and sliced it.
A plume of dancing brown strands swept to the ground beneath us. I hesitated, holding my breath for her reaction. “More,” Idris snarled at me. Her eyes were now set hard upon her reflection. With an ounce more life in her, she would’ve burned a hole right through the mirror. I frowned at the harsh gaze she held on herself, wishing she would burn a hole through the surface because it would mean she was using her magic again.
Idris shifted, forcing my attention back to the sharp blade I hovered near her head.
