Parker’s voice cut through the tension as he entered the warehouse. His tone was weary, but it didn’t sit well with me; it made me feel like a threat to everyone. “Will you look at me?” Castor’s voice was unexpectedly soft, almost gentle. I hesitated but eventually turned to meet his gaze. His eyes held an understanding that made me want to collapse. “I need you to go to the car and wait for me there.” “You can’t tell me what to do,” I snapped.

“You’re exhausted, Marielle,” he said, calmly. “And exhaustion leads to recklessness. I need you at your best. So, you need to rest.” I opened my mouth to argue, but he added, “Please.” The simple plea was enough to break through my stubbornness. My shoulders sagged in defeat, and Castor nodded, acknowledging my silent agreement. He let me go, and I moved sluggishly out of the warehouse, feeling every weight of my exhaustion and frustration.

Maybe some other time I would ponder over how Castor’s command made me look frail and disposable, but I kept my gaze forward until I was out of their sight. I sank into the passenger seat of Castor’s car, the leather cool and comforting beneath me. As the car’s interior enveloped me, I felt the tension and anxiety drain from my body. The lack of food and sleep hit me hard, and within moments, I drifted into a deep, peaceful sleep, the enervation finally claiming me.

* Castor “God, I’m glad she’s gone,” Pierre groaned, a hint of laughter tainting his voice. “What a crazy bitch. Thanks, man. You helped me out.” My head whipped toward Pierre, my eyes narrowing with disgust as I heard him dismiss Marielle so callously. “I suggest you be very careful with what you say, Montreal.” Pierre regarded me with a mixture of curiosity and mockery before chuckling. “So, she has you under her spell too. God, the sex must be amazing then.” My reaction was instantaneous – my fist connected with the side of his face with a sickening crunch.

His head whipped to the side, the force of the blow sending a ripple of pain through my knuckles. Blood and saliva sprayed from his mouth, splattering onto the floor. Despite the satisfaction of landing the punch, my rage simmered beneath the surface, urging me to deliver another. “Sterling!” Parker’s voice cut through the haze of fury.

He grabbed me and yanked me back, his expression a combination of frustration and concern.
