I’ll teach those mischievous ani- mals to play about like that!’

And he fetched his broom and began to sweep up Bobs, Topsy, Cosy and Bimbo as fast as he could. They simply couldn’t imag- ine what was happening! As soon as they found their legs they were swept right off them again and were sent round and round the lawn at top speed, first one and then another.

¢ Happy Days! ‘What is it, what is it?’ yelped Topsy. ‘There’s a thing that goes swish-swish-swish behind me all the time!’ mewed Bimbo. The four animals fled as fast as their legs could take them away. They sat under the big lilac bush and licked themselves. ‘Was it you in the leaves?’ Bobs asked Topsy and Bimbo. ‘Oh, what a fright you gave me! And then the gardener gave me a worse fright still! Look — he’s sweeping the leaves up again — and I’m sure the wind is getting up.

What fun if it blows the leaves all over the lawn! Well — he won’t be able to sweep the wind away!’ And sure enough, the wind did come —- and once more the leaves were flying all over the lawn. ‘Serves you right!’ barked Topsy to the poor gardener. But she was careful not to go too near him! She didn’t want to be swept away again.

Chapter 9 Bimbo Plays a Trick () nce Bimbo was naughty, and Mistress said he must go without his dinner. ‘You have sharpened your claws on my best chairs, said Mistress. ‘You have scratched the legs terribly. You know quite well you are not supposed to do that, you _ haughty kitten-cat!’ Bimbo was sad when he didn’t have any dinner. He thought he had better see if he could get some of Cosy’s. But Cosy was ready for him and hissed and spat so fiercely that he didn’t dare to do anything but lie down a little way off and watch Cosy eat up all her dinner, and then lick the drips off her whiskers.

‘Couldn’t I clean your whiskers for you?’ e Happy Days! said Bimbo. But Cosy said no. So Bimbo wan- dered off to see if Bobs had got any dinner to spare. Bobs was just eating his meal when Bimbo came up. ‘Can I have a little, please?’ asked Bimbo.

If you colour me with your crayons, don’t forget to give me blue eyes, not green. I do a lot of naughty things in this book — but Mistress says she wouldn’t part with me, even if I were twice as bad. So she must love me very much, mustn’t she?

I hope you will love me too, when you read my book. I am sharing it with Topsy, the puppy. She will write you a letter at the end. A hundred purrs from, Bimbo Chapter 1 The New Little Kitten C):: day a little kitten arrived in a bas- ket at a house called Green Hedges. He was a present for two little girls there, and how they squealed with joy to see him!

‘He’s not a bit like an ordinary cat!’ said Gillian. ‘He’s creamy-white, and he’s got a chocolate-brown nose, ears, feet and tail!’ ‘And do look at his eyes!’ said Imogen. “They are bright blue — like the sea on a sum- mer’s day.’ 3 So they were.
