“I believe some of the warriors and guards have to sleep on the ships due to the high volume of people, but they have very comfortable rooms.” “We’ll be heading out in a couple of days,” I said once we’d made it inside the dorm. “Are you set for that?” “The warriors are well prepared for the journey and battle.” Bahdir nodded. “The tribe is stocking up on food and textiles for when we leave, and they’re brewing healing salves and tinctures to pack for the journey.

I have also informed the twelve warriors who will stay behind to protect the village.” It had dawned on me that the settlement and castle would be left unattended during our time at the emperor’s palace, and I needed strong and trustworthy men to stay behind and protect our home. Bahdir had helped me hand-select a small group for the job. “My guards have acclimated well,” Taj said. “Trinika Sanon will be pleased. They have joined the Shanukstani ranks and will be under your army’s command until the end of the invasion.”

“That’s always good to hear,” I said. “I know they’re still Trinika’s guards, but I’m grateful for the Outlands’ help.” We all sat around the dining table, and I picked a green canto from the plate of vegetables in the middle. Gwen and Kryze had put together an assortment of snacks, and the Tullia-inspired charcuterie boards were becoming one of my favorite meals. “The troops from Lydmark, and obviously Castilan, will meet us in Armedus, too,” I said.

“Owain will send some of his guards to sail out on his dad’s ship and then join us with the Sláine.” “We’re all going, right?” Nora asked with a fire in her hazel eyes. “Yes,” I said, “but not everyone will be on the battlefield. I need some of you to stand back and stay on Owain’s ship.” “Who’s going on the battlefield?” Asha asked. “You.” I bit the inside of my cheek, and my gaze drifted around the table to meet each expectant look.

“Andamora, Gwen, Akoni, and of course, Tevai.” “I will fly over,” Tevai said in her usual flat tone, “and I will tear their heads off with my teeth.” “Whoa.” Nora’s eyes widened. “Bahdir,” I said, “you’ll be going on King Lavino’s ship with Carl and the other magic-holders.” I glanced over at the crew who’d been quietly listening for the last thirty minutes. Carl gave me a nod of acknowledgement, and Jacosa flashed me a gleeful grin like we were in middle school and I’d just told her that her crush liked her back.

“Taj, you’ll be going with another Castilan ship,” I said.

Then you’ll know when my books come out before anyone else. 1kitap1.com/en Chapter 1 I stared at Owain with my eyes bulging out of their sockets and my lungs straining for air. It was weird enough to find my friend looking panicked on my doorstep before he practically barged into Castle Woodhouse past me.

The news about his sister that had him so distraught was an even bigger shock. I’d planned to head off to bed after the long journey from Malgoza and Valuuz. Bruxa Biatris had carried out a hit on King Lavino and had turned him into a sheep. Or, at least, he had been gradually turning into a farm animal before I killed the ancient witch and broke the curse to free him. Olivia, Nora, Akoni, Andamora, Tevai, and I had barely finished catching the other women up with our adventures when we’d heard a knock on the door.

Lord Owain stared at me with a frantic gaze. His hair was disheveled from riding his horse from Lydmark, his thick beard was unkempt, and he bit the inside of his cheek as if he was holding himself back from crying. “My father has successfully found Lady Ellaria a husband…” Owain repeated and scoffed. It came out in an angry puff of air like it was punctuating a dark joke. “She is being shipped off at the end of next month to marry…”

Owain’s nostrils flared in anger, and his jaw clenched. “Emperor Constantine.” “He can’t do that!” Nora burst out in frustration. “Can’t your sister just say no?” “It doesn’t work like that, unfortunately.” Gwen pursed her lips, and her eyebrows arched over her doe eyes with empathy. “I’m afraid Lady Gwen is correct,” Owain said. “Matters like these… It’s my father’s decision, not hers.” “That’s so wrong.” Asha shook her head in a mixture of disappointment and disdain. My second-in-command took a step forward to stand next to me. Her arms were crossed over her chest, but it looked more like she was hugging herself.

“How is Lady Ellaria doing?” she asked in a gentle tone. “She is…” Owain chewed his lower lip. “She has been better, but she is worried.” “We won’t let them get away with this,” I said, and it was a promise.
