Luna kissed like a woman who remembered exactly what desire tasted like and had forgotten nothing in all the years since. Her lips were soft, warm, confident. No hesitation. No tentative exploration. She knew what she wanted. She’d known for months. She’d fought it, reasoned against it, cited professional boundaries and the ghost of a dead Handler and the age gap and every logical objection a brilliant woman could construct.

And then she’d walked into a cave and found his last letter, and all those logical objections had dissolved like morning frost. Her twin tails wound around me as we kissed, one curling around my waist, the other tracing up my back. They moved independently, each one expressing a different facet of her want: one possessive, one tender. “The moonlight,” she murmured against my mouth. “Come.” She led me out of the alcove, through the vine curtain, to the Moonpool’s crystalline shore.

The main pool reflected the sky in liquid silver. Moonflowers bloomed along the bank, their scent sweet and ancient. The water lapped at smooth stone, warm and inviting. At the water’s edge, Luna paused. She reached into her travel pack and drew out the hairpin. Silver and elegant, the last symbol of her composure. She held it over the pool.

Looked at it. Looked at me. Then she opened her fingers and let it drop into the water. It sank slowly, catching moonlight as it spiraled down, a bright point disappearing into the crystalline depths. A farewell. A new beginning. Luna turned to face me. The moonlight caught her silver hair, her battle scars, the elegant mature curves of her body beneath her travel clothes.

She was breathtaking. Not the way the younger catgirls were breathtaking, with their vibrant youth and kinetic energy. Luna was breathtaking the way a cathedral is: structured, profound, built to last. She unlaced her travel shirt. The fabric parted to reveal smooth moonlight- pale skin, the mentor sigils along her collarbones, the thin scar lines across her ribs.

Each scar a battle fought protecting students. Each sigil a decade of service. Her breasts spilled free as the shirt fell. Full D-cups, heavy and round, gravity-defying in the way that marked her as something beyond merely human.

Six catgirls and one Handler stared at it. Nobody touched it. “Thirty days,” I said, reading the formal script again. “‘Present for examination under the authority of the Inquisition High Council, or face formal multi-bonding charges under Tyrant War statutes.’” Sera’s tail lashed against the table leg. “So we go and let them lock you in a cage. Is that the plan?” “That’s not the plan.” “Because it sounds like the plan.” Kira’s ears were flat. Not playful-flat. Worried-flat. Her orange tabby tail tapped the cushion beneath her in rapid staccato, and her amber eyes had lost their usual spark.

“What happens if you don’t show up?” “Formal charges. Arrest warrant. Bounty. The works.” Miri adjusted her glasses. Then adjusted them again. Her white tail knotted itself into a complicated shape against her thigh. “There’s a third option.” Everyone looked at her. “Aldric’s research cache.” She pushed a handwritten note across the table, her pale blue eyes bright behind those thick black frames.

“Luna mentioned it after the Tribunal. Aldric was researching the Greycliffe bloodline. He found something. He hid it in the outer territories near where he died.” Luna stood at the window, both silver tails perfectly still. Moonlit jasmine and aged parchment drifted through the room as she turned. The morning light caught the thin battle scars along her collarbones, barely visible above her elegant robes. “I know the route,” she said quietly.

“Aldric walked it twenty years ago. His journal has markers.” “You want us to go into the wild.” Syrenne’s ice-blue eyes swept the table. Her ash-gray hair was immaculate, her ears barely twitching, her tail motionless. The picture of composure.
