It was just odd enough to pique her curiosity. “Fine. I will go find him outside. But I will only give him ten minutes to tell me his story and then I am returning to Longbourn. Mama and Papa will be expecting me.” With a grumble of frustration, Elizabeth put on her coat and followed the same path Darcy took out to the gardens of Netherfield. She only hoped he had not walked far, as it was cold, and the last thing she wished to do was have an unpleasant conversation in the frigid gardens.

Not that she wished to do this at all, but if it would end this nonsense, Elizabeth would do whatever she must… 1kitap1.com/en arcy stood next to a shrub of winter honeysuckle in the gardens of Netherfield, staring at the clouds as they drifted by in a voluminous gray accumulation. The snow was still falling lightly, but he was sure that at any moment, a proper torrent of flakes would drop upon him and he would have to return inside. Until then, however, he would stay in the cold and let his frustration calm.

“You are going to catch your death out here, Mr. Darcy.” The sound of Elizabeth’s voice caused him to turn in surprise. He never expected that she would follow him, let alone out into the snow. “Miss Bennet, go back inside. It is far too cold for you out here. That coat is not fit for such weather.” She walked up next to him despite his objections and tucked her gloved hands into the sleeves of her coat. “You need not worry for my well being, sir.

I am the picture of good health. It is you for whom I am concerned.” He laughed in surprise at her boldness. “Why are you concerned for me?” Elizabeth rubbed her hands together and blew the warmth of her breath into them. “Because you seem to be confused about what is your business and what is not. I appreciate that you are concerned for my welfare, but I fail to understand how my welfare is your business.

We are not friends, Mr. Darcy.

I absolutely forbid it, young lady! You will not marry that… beast of a man. I know him much better than you and he is an overgrown child!

No… this is unacceptable.” Elizabeth was on her second hour of listening to her father’s objections over her engagement to Timothy Montrose. In truth, she did not disagree with anything he said. The gentleman was three decades older than her, he was quite boring, and had the appearance of an aged bulldog. Yet, since the sudden death of William Collins, gentleman had not exactly been knocking the Bennet’s door down to marry Elizabeth.

Timothy Montrose was, at the very least, kind. And a marriage would pacify her mother, if not her father. “Papa, he is a decent man.” “He is dull! He does not share any of your interests. He has never made anyone we know laugh. I do not even think he knows how to tell a joke! Elizabeth, I simply do not understand. Why must you accept this man’s proposal?

There is no rush.” Mrs. Bennet set down her tea cup and scoffed at her husband. “There most certainly IS a rush, Mr. Bennet. Do you want your daughter to be an old maid when all of her sisters are already married?” Elizabeth sighed and took a long sip of the port she had been drinking. If allowed, she would have finished a bottle, but her mother never would have let her.

This entire conversation was exhausting her after what should have been a moderately joyous announcement. “Mrs. Bennet, I do not wish for Elizabeth to hurry into a marriage that will make her unhappy. And what of children? Can you imagine what an atrocious father Timothy would be? Your children will be more intelligent than him by the time they are old enough to walk.”

“Papa, please.” Her father crossed his arms over his chest. “Do you love him, Lizzy?” Elizabeth did not even have to consider the question. “Of course not, father.” “That is for the better,” Mrs. Bennet said after taking a bite of a biscuit. “He will not infuriate you the way your father does me.” Mr. Bennet shook his head at his wife. “That is nonsense. Elizabeth, please reconsider before it is too late.”

She did not relish the conversation that was about to follow her next announcement, as she knew her father would immediately object. “Papa, I need you to treat Timothy with kindness because he will be joining us for dinner Friday next.” Mr. Bennet did not speak a word.
