Checkmate – London Lennox

I know I’ll have to watch him, keep him close but not too close. Can’t let my guard down—Aisling means too much. “Take care of her,” I manage to say, keeping my voice steady. “You seem to be the one she trusts when she wants to do something that scares the hell out of the rest of us…so I need you to keep an eye on her when she won’t let the rest of us do it.”
“Always,” he replies. I want to believe him. I need to, for the sake of the pack. With one last look at Vance, I decide it’s time to drop this, for now. I need to keep my head clear, stay sharp for what’s coming. “Well…you probably need some rest,” I tell him. “I guess we’re done here.” He nods once. “See you later, brother.” Then he turns and starts walking away. I think that’s the first time he’s ever called me that.
I stand there, watching him go. The anger in me simmers down to something else, something quieter. This isn’t over—not by a long shot. But for now, I let it be. We’ve got a war to fight. 1kitap1.com/en Chapter Sixteen Aisling I sit on the edge of my bed, unable to sleep.
The gray walls close in on me, suffocating. My mind races—rescue missions, omegas needing shelter, pack bonds straining under pressure. I rub at my temples. There’s too much to fix, and I’m just one person. Knock, knock. The sound yanks me back. I stand, cross the room and pull open the door. Rook leans against the frame, grinning like he knows a secret, like the world isn’t falling apart outside these walls.
I blink up at him. “Hey, love,” he says, as if it’s just another evening. “Thought I’d check in before you spiral all the way into despair. You’re coming out tonight.” “Out?” I can’t help but snort and cross my arms over my chest. The idea seems so absurd. “Did you hit your head, Rook? I can’t just leave—not now, not with everything happening. You know it’s a warzone out there, right?” I watch Rook as he ignores my words and strolls in, making himself at home in a rickety chair by the bed.
He throws me a look that’s all challenge and no apology. “Right. Because the fate of the world depends on you sitting here and staring at the wall. Come on, Aisling. One night. You need this.” My head shakes before I can stop it, my hands clenching at my sides.
Welcome to the Inkverse This book is part of a series of interconnected omegaverse novels, each featuring their own kickass omega. The Inkverse is set in a world where, roughly thirty years ago, a virus called The Great Mutation caused an apocalypse and divided humanity into hypersexual groups of alphas, betas, and omegas—and where they use tattoos to mark their mates.
The Solstice Bay Inkverse follows a revolution against the cruel Alpha Control Bureau in Solstice Bay (former New York). This is a complete trilogy that tells the story through three different omegas’ stories—Olivia, Jade, and Kendra, all daughters of ACB leaders. The series should be read in order. The West Coast Inkverse tells the story of Aisling “Star” Faye in a slow- build whychoose epic.
Get to know Aisling and her pack, the Angels, in the neon streets of Pacific City (former Los Angeles), and please note that this series should be read in order! And make sure to check out my Inkverse Standalones, which can be read in any order! PACK POLITICS – a peek into the life of the first omega senator in Solstice Bay.
KNOTTY OR NICE – an omega’s escape to an omegas-only ski resort where they can ride out their heat in comfort and pleasure. Dive in with any of my first books in series or standalones…and I hope you love my take on omegaverse! 1kitap1.com/en Prologue Aisling Echo Beach A Long Time Ago I snap awake. My head throbs, and my mouth tastes like I’ve been chewing on a dirty sponge.
The room spins, and I blink hard, trying to get my bearings. It’s no use—I’m strapped to a chair, my wrists chafing against the coarse rope. What happened? All I can remember is water. Water in my mouth, in my lungs…choking. “Hello?” I call out, or at least I try to. My voice is a cracked whisper, barely loud enough to echo off the bare walls. I test the restraints, pulling at them with what little strength I have left.
Nothing gives. Panic sets in, and with it, flashes of memory—terrifying and fragmented. Water. So much water. I’m underwater, and I can’t breathe. My lungs scream for air as I fight my way up, but the ocean drags me down. Lightning splits the sky above me, and each time I almost break the surface, another wave crashes over my head, forcing me back into the dark…
“Hey!” I yell again, louder this time. “Is anyone there?” No answer. Just the sound of my own heart hammering in my chest. I shiver—from fear, from the chill of those phantom waves that still cling to my skin. I need to get out of here. I need to remember how I ended up in this nightmare. But first, I need to stay calm. Footsteps echo in the empty space, jerking me to alertness. I turn my head, eyes straining against the dim light to see two figures.
