Chakra Empowerment For Women – Lisa Erickson

It is linked to communication, and, accordingly, speech through the vocal cords in our throat. However, we can gain a deeper understanding of the throat chakra by considering the true nature of communication. Is it simply saying words, or is it getting our point across? I think we’d all agree it’s the latter; after all, vocalizing a thought doesn’t automatically mean we are understood.

For effective communication, we not only need the ability to vocalize, we need the ability to connect. And connection requires listening and observing as much as it does speech. We must attune to how others react to our speech and adapt our words accordingly. The throat chakra is linked to both sides of interaction—speaking and listening. It is about receiving inward as much as it is about expressing outward. It is an energetic bridge between ourselves and others.

It is also a bridge within us between our inner and outer selves. How does anyone know what we are feeling or thinking? How do we know what anyone else is feeling or thinking? Through communication. It might be through speech or other means—body language, facial expressions, writing, sign language, signals. All of these are throat chakra functions on an energetic level.

All of them are also ways of connecting our internal self with the external world. What we actually communicate in any given moment—our external self —may be in or out of alignment with how we are truly feeling. We may speak our truth regularly, or we may hide it. We might calibrate our speech according to the reaction we want from others, prone to people-pleasing or grandstanding. We can use our speech to connect with people or deceive them—as a bridge or a wall.

In this sense our throat chakra has a much deeper function—it is the compass of our authenticity and integrity. The throat chakra serves as a bridge within our overall energy body as well. While the heart chakra is the center point in our seven-chakra system, the throat chakra is the gateway between our earthly and spiritual chakras.

Our third eye and crown chakras are esoteric and spiritual in nature, much less linked to the energies of the material and human world than our root through heart chakras. In this sense our throat chakra is the gateway between our everyday energies, and our higher intuitive and spiritual abilities. If our lower and upper chakras are not linked through our throat, we may feel as if our lives are not in alignment with our “real” self.
