I thought I was getting old at thirty-five. I was young when the storm began. I was old when it ended. I grew wise. Know yourself) IT do. So I know others. Iam weak, but He 1s strong. Jesus keep me from all wrong. I have to let Him. I must call on Him when storms approach. Before they approach.

Don’t stand out 1n the rain. Or the lightning. Or the thunder. He promised never to leave me. Never to leave me alone. She no longer knew the definition of “unfaithful” and “adultery.” She’d known it all her life. . before. But now, she searched her heart, her life, the Scripture. God called Israel an adulterer. He called Israel unfaithful. And yet, King David committed adultery, his punishment was that his baby died, but David repented and he was still a man after God’s own heart.

David had sinned. He did not continue in his sin. Israel continued to disobey God, to turn to idols, to disobey. Unfaithful and adultery seemed like words used to describe a lifestyle, a continuation of turning from God. She had not done that. She sinned.

Once. Well, her heart and mind led up to it by remaining in a tempting situation. But the act, the sinful act, occurred once. Only once. She was sorry. She begged forgiveness. She returned to Henry, the man she loved. God’s chosen for her. They belonged together. She never doubted that. The other had been. . what? A temptation she hadn’t yielded to as a teenager. « She’d been tempted as a teenager? The unknown. The forbidden.

The great experience that was so precious one saved themselves for it. The one great forbidden thing that so tempted and taunted mankind. . .they risked marriages, families for it. They abuséd others for it. It could become so overwhelming that some even murdered and killed for it. Even preachers, called servants of God, who knew the temp- tations, the penalties, lost families, respect of their followers, because of becoming involved in a sexual experience. . .not love, but sex. That was something Eunice never yielded to as a teenager, as a young adult, as a maturing woman.

Not until she was halfway between thirty and forty. Why? She had wanted him. He had wanted her. They both knew it. They played with fire. She got burned. Her and Henry’s sadness could be explained. His dad had died; her father-in-law had died. Church members had storm damage such as downed trees, parts of roofs blown off, damaged homes.

Henry’s beloved flowerbeds were demolished. But Eunice knew. The girl, the wife, the woman he’d known wasn’t there. She went through the motions, automatically doing the things she’d done for years. Only her heart was missing.
