Journey Below – Deacon Frost

It struck him as funny that Non refused to fit the scenario. The moment the other gods restricted her, she’d given him a Quest to learn this enchantment—with the reward of a meeting with his god. She really is good at finding loopholes to exploit. Tedious drawings done, Vester triple checked all his lines and symbols. Once he was absolutely sure it was right, he stepped in the center, crossed his legs, and began pushing his mana into the circle to activate it. “Finally!” Non said.
She’d simply appeared on his lap the moment enough mana had entered the circle. Without hesitation, she planted a warm kiss on his lips. “I thought you’d never summon me! Why do you wait so long between calling?” “I have had a lot going on,” Vester pointed out dryly. When his goddess pouted at him, he planted a kiss on the tip of her nose and gripped one of her curled horns to give her head a shake.
“Aren’t you supposed to be dispensing divine wisdom?” he teased. “But I don’t waaaaaannnaaaa,” Non pouted in a drawn-out whine. The sparkle in her eyes made it clear she was kidding, and after stealing one last kiss, she sobered. “So, you did some great things, and you’ve got a rough situation forming. Which do you want to know about first?” Oh gee, I wonder, Vester thought to himself. Do I want to hear about how awesome I am… or the shit that might fuck up my life?
What a hard decision… Truthfully, he did want to hear Non tell him how awesome he was, but since he wasn’t an idiot, he focused on the important things first. “I assume you’re talking about the fact someone tried to kill me? Or maybe the Church of Light trying to take control of the Great Dungeon?” Vester guessed. The twinkle in her eyes made him think Non had been skimming his thoughts, but if she had, she was polite enough to pretend she hadn’t.
“Mmmhmmm,” she confirmed. “Peace wants to drive the Adventurers out of the Safe Zone and take over the Trading Post.
Vester Gambit was riding the bus to college when a truck-kun paid them a visit. His brother, chosen to be the Hero by the gods of Ordinal, was isekaied with five companions to a new world. Unfortunately, as his twin, Vester was pulled along through the Reincarnation Network, though the gods weren’t happy at finding a seventh person in their queue. While the gods of Law, War, Death, and Peace chose to try and cripple Vester with a series of curses that they hoped would prevent him from leveling and gaining the power to disrupt the Hero’s plans, two gods decided to grant Vester boons to enable him to grow.
Julius, the god of Life, blessed Vester to always heal perfectly from any injury—but Non, goddess of Chaos, went further. Non chose Vester to be her Avatar and made sure he had the tools required to level—if he were clever. Vester’s arrival on Ordinal was a brutal affair, with the Church of Life doing their best to kill him. He was saved by the Founder of the Adventurer’s Guild, Tomlin. Vester agreed to work for the Guild as a receptionist at their new outpost in Porter’s Walk.
That Guildhall ended up being far more important than anyone anticipated, with the dungeon they sought being an entrance to the Great Dungeon. The journey to Porter’s Walk took place on a mighty vapor-wagon, and it gave Vester time to befriend the kitsune taking over the fledging Guildhall. Kora Dol was relatively low level for a Guild Master, but she’d been forced to retire from delving after being blinded in combat.
They were both shocked to discover her ability to see the illusions Vester was able to create as a Dreamspinner. This revelation led to Kora proposing that Vester join a Party with her, and that saw Vester learning the skills he needed to gain power of his own. But Kora wasn’t the only woman Vester met on his trip.
He was also befriended by Skylar Free, a Puppetmaster who planned to begin delving the new dungeon at Porter’s Walk and had paid for her journey working as a cargo handler for the Transportation Guild. When they arrived at Porter’s Walk, Vester worked hard to help Kora get the Guildhall up and running, and there he met Krysta Breen, a pandali woman from another world.
