Giggling to herself, she’s halfway through typing “yes” when her screen lights up with a WhatsApp call from Hassana. Realising she hasn’t checked the group chat since her initial message. She quickly types a reply to Leo.

I’m sorry but now is not a good time. I have a call waiting. But if you are awake and I can’t sleep later, maybe then. Leo (Sad face) No worries, take care. As soon as she answers the call, the barrage begins immediately: questions, accusations, and playful jabs tumble out from Hassana, Somto, Kemi, and Mabel. “Guys, calm down,” Uchenna says, laughing as she heads to her kitchen to get a bottle of water. “I know I should have said something. I just wanted to be sure of what this was.”

“What this was, abi?” Kemi retorts with a scoff. “I’m sorry, now. I didn’t mean to keep it from you,” Uchenna says sheepishly. “But you did,” Mabel fires back. “Was it because we grilled you about him at Tade’s rehearsal dinner? That was even months ago?” Somto cuts in with outrage. “The bigger question is how long you’ve been doing sneaky-sneaky with this man!”

Uchenna bursts out laughing. “Sneaky-sneaky? I take offence to that!” “Offence to which part?” Hassana shoots back. “Imagine my shock when I opened the chat and saw all these messages.” “Oya, sorry now,” Uchenna concedes. “I wasn’t sneaking. We just met at the store when my phone broke, he texted last week, and we planned a date for tonight.” “So, two weeks of keeping us in the dark. Wow,” Kemi replies. “Do you people want the gist or should I keep quiet?”

Uchenna teases, heading back to her bedroom with the bottle of water. “Don’t you dare threaten us with gist!” Mabel warns. Somto and Kemi chorus, “Apologise first!” “Shebi, I have apologised already?” Uchenna protests as Lami joins the call. “Good evening, everyone,” Lami greets. “What’s going on?” “Ask Uccy o!” Kemi exclaims. “Can you believe she went on a date tonight?” Lami’s brows shoot up. “When? How?
