Lilith’s black eyes glittered. “They understood what the High Prince doesn’t – that some forces aren’t meant to be controlled. They can only be contained.” Her thumb traced Veronica’s lower lip. “Rather like the attraction between us, wouldn’t you say?” Heat bloomed in Veronica’s chest. “Is that what this is? Something to be contained?” “Perhaps.” Lilith’s smile was sin incarnate. “Or perhaps it’s something to be explored.

Like these tunnels beneath your estate.” She tapped the diagram. “The wards are failing without regular renewal. Your parents’ sacrifice bought time, but soon…” “We’ll need to reach the binding site,” Veronica finished. “But the estate is watched. The duchess, Blackthorne…” “Let them watch.” Lilith pulled her closer, possessive and proud. “Let them see what happens when they threaten what’s mine.”

Her lips brushed Veronica’s temple. “Besides, I do so enjoy making them nervous.” The grimoire suddenly slammed shut, making Veronica jump. Lilith steadied her with a low laugh. “Someone’s coming,” the demon queen whispered. “Shall we continue this discussion somewhere more… private? Your chambers, perhaps?” Her smile promised more than just conversation about family secrets. “My chambers are quite far,” Veronica countered, finding her courage. “And you said we don’t have much time.” Lilith’s eyes darkened with approval at her boldness.

“True. But I know every shadow passage in this palace.” Her hand slid to Veronica’s lower back. “And I very much want to hear more about these binding rituals. After all…” Her grin showed fangs. “Practice makes perfect.” Before Veronica could respond, footsteps echoed through the library. Lilith’s arms wrapped around her waist from behind, and the shadows rose to embrace them both. The last thing Veronica saw before darkness claimed them was Lord Blackthorne bursting through the doors, his monocle spinning wildly as they vanished.

They had mysteries to solve, a cosmic horror to contain, and a conspiracy to unravel. 1kitap1.com/en Three weeks later Veronica’s eyes opened to gray dawn light. Shadows stretched across the chamber from the last glowing coals. Her toes curled against the icy floor as she padded to the fireplace.

Each movement awakened echoes of that night – the phantom press of Lilith’s hands, the heat of her mouth. But in the weeks since, only silence and distance. The ornate bed dominated one corner, its deep burgundy covers spilling over carved ebony posts, an island of decadence amid bare stone walls. Lilith sat motionless in a high-backed chair, her tailored suit unmarked by ash or shadow. The demon’s tailored suit bore no wrinkle, no crease to mar its obsidian perfection. Her legs crossed at the ankles, waiting.

No human could be so still, Veronica thought. No human’s eyes could hold such ancient hunger. “Sleep well?” Lilith’s velvet tone sliced the quiet.

A clockwork servant offered champagne that bubbled with liquid starlight, its crystalline eyes tracking each guest’s movement with mechanical precision. Veronica felt Lilith’s presence before she saw her – a shift in the air, a darkening of the shadows, a flutter in her chest that had nothing to do with nerves. The demon queen materialized beside her, close enough that the leather of her fitted jacket brushed Veronica’s bare shoulder. Lilith moved with predatory grace, her raven hair cascading over the sharp lines of her jacket.

Those solid black eyes – endless as the void and just as ancient – traced over Veronica with unconcealed hunger. Even among demons, she was striking – all dangerous curves and deadly promise. The contrast between them couldn’t have been more stark. Veronica’s golden hair caught the hellfire light like a halo, her sea-green eyes bright against pale skin.

She looked almost fragile in her midnight silk gown, like something delicate that should shatter under a demon’s touch. But Lilith knew better. Had tasted the steel beneath that soft exterior, the iron will that had survived her family’s destruction. It made her all the more delicious – this beautiful, breakable thing that refused to break. “You clean up nicely, little mage.” Lilith’s fingers ghosted along the neckline of Veronica’s midnight silk gown, not quite touching skin. “Though I preferred you in considerably less.”

Heat crept up the mage’s neck. Before she could respond, Lilith was already guiding her toward a cluster of nobles, her hand a brand of ownership against the small of Veronica’s back. A duchess turned at their approach, her glamour flickering to reveal silver serpents writhing through her hair. Her forked tongue tasted the air.

“My, my… what a delectable little morsel you’ve brought us, Lilith.” Lilith’s grip tightened possessively. “Lady Veronica is my protégé. And quite off limits, Duchess Ravencroft.”
