Back in the car, she shut the door and just sat there for a second, staring at her own reflection in the dark screen of the dashboard. Guilt sat heavy in her chest for lying to Blossom and leaving her crying, but the second she started the engine, reality came rushing back. Jax wanted her back now, and he wasn’t a man you made wait.

Pulling off, she headed toward his place, and the closer she got to Oakbrook, the more the guilt twisted. Then, at the worst time ever, her phone lit up with a call from Cook County Jail. Without thinking twice, Jade declined it. “Damn…” she whispered, shaking her head as the guilt doubled back.
