A Deceit Of The Dark – Amy Reading (1)

“Look hot as fuck.” I scoff and run the brush through the strands that now reach well down past my waist. “Let’s get this over with then,” I say. We choose to sit at a table away from Freya, who has taken her usual position at the head of the great hall. As we walk in, a few appreciative glances are thrown at Reyne and Rach. Eòghann sits on the other side of the hall and he almost chokes on his drink when he sees Reyne, his eyes blowing wide with longing and desire.
I know she still hasn’t spoken to him. She beat his ass, then went back to ignoring every attempt he made to speak with her. He’s also not pushed her buttons again, realizing it will likely result in his face being bloodied a second time. I can’t blame her really. He hurt her badly, and she’s struggling to let go of that. Eòghann moves to rise from his seat, looking like he might make another attempt to speak to her, but when he catches my eye, I subtly shake my head.
Not tonight. 1kitap1.com/en Chapter 28 The three of us hiss as the fourth round of shots burn their way down our throats. “Fuck. Gonna regret this in the morning,” Reyne slurs through her laughter. We’ve been out for a couple of hours now, and a steady stream of the delicious sparkling Seelie wine that tastes like raspberry lemonade, and shots of gin, have flowed since we arrived. Rach’s eyes are slightly unfocused as we sit at a high-top table in the cozy bar—or pub, to use the proper name— in the center of the town.
The Misted Crown sits at the very heart of Morven, and looks exactly as I’d expect a pub in a magical Seelie realm to look. The Tudor-style exterior is painted in shades of green, and the name hangs from a sign outside the wooden door, swaying gently in the breeze. The inside smells of beer and smoke, and the low-hanging light fittings bathe the main room in a glow that makes it hard to concentrate on anyone’s face. Especially now I’m a few glasses of wine and four shots deep.
A fire crackles in the hearth at one end of the room, and tables are littered throughout; increasingly drunk patrons sitting around them playing cards and trading jokes. A band plays quiet tunes in the corner of the room, but are mostly drowned out the more everyone drinks. Seems we weren’t the only people in Morven that needed booze tonight.
My friends talk between themselves about the training I missed that morning, and I tune in and out of the conversation. “I lost control,” I blurt out, tongue loosened by alcohol, cutting off what Rach was about to say. “What do you mean, lass?” Reyne asks with a hiccup. “Today. In the woods. I lost control of my magic and that’s why I wasn’t at training.”
