A Perilous Plot – Lorna Barrett (1)

“Mother has always been rather…” She didn’t finish the sentence. “Judgmental?” Tricia supplied. “Well, yes. Pixie is a wonderful person—the salt of the earth—but I’m not sure Mother would appreciate that kind of personality. And did she meet Pixie three years ago when she and Daddy visited the village?” “I don’t quite remember.
Does it really matter? Pixie is a compassionate soul. If she can get Mother to open up about what’s been happening in her life…” “Yes, but Pixie is also pretty tight-lipped when it comes to gossip,” Angelica pointed out. That trait hadn’t gone unnoticed by others. “It’s something I’d have to discuss with her,” Tricia agreed. “Well, go for it. And if she doesn’t agree, then what are we to do?” That was a question for which Tricia had no answer. 1kitap1.com/en thirteen Tricia texted Pixie as soon as she returned home, and then they chatted on the phone for a good twenty minutes before they’d decided on a path forward with Operation Sheila.
Pixie understood what it would take to cultivate Sheila Miles’s trust, so she would dress accordingly. She seemed to process the plan as a lark, a chance not only to play dress-up but also to indulge in an acting assignment. She would use her real name, but she would play the part of a confidant. She made it clear that depending on the level of trust Sheila gave her, she may or may not repeat the information she learned to Tricia and/or Angelica.
“That’s all I can ask of you,” Tricia said. “Our aim is to keep her safe.” “I get it. What say I start the day at Haven’t Got a Clue, and when you get the release forms signed at the hospital, let me know and I’ll meet you at the Brookview.” “Great. And I really appreciate you taking this on.” “I haven’t had an acting job since playing a bit part in a summer stock production of Chicago I did back when I was a teen.”
Pixie had had so many weird and wonderful occupations during her life that Tricia wasn’t surprised that thespian was another one that could be entered on her résumé. “Really?” “Oh, yeah. My mom was doing two months in the county lockup, and nobody knew what to do with me, so I got some kind of scholarship and got shipped to Connecticut.
I had room and board, and even got some new clothes out of the deal.
