A Tempest Of Shadows The Akothian Ascension – Marcey Pierce

They lived outside the limits of Farlow, which would make it easier to sneak in unnoticed. Saleah took hold of the reins at that moment, holding the beast in place. “No. You cannot go back. It has already been set in motion.” “They will kill them if the king knows what you know, especially after what happened in the courtyard.”
“If that were their plan, they would have been executed already. The wind blows steadily, Brenna. Your parents live. They also know their peril and have safeguards in place. They will be fine, I can assure you that.” “What am I supposed to do?” “I need to tell you a story,” Saleah murmured. I only nodded at her. “I do not wish to startle you with this. It will be shocking, so I need you to assure me that you will not turn heel and run straight back to Farlow,” she said, eyeing me with seriousness.
“I will do my best.” Saleah took a deep breath, her eyes closed momentarily before letting the breath free. “You are not human. Not fully, anyway,” she explained. “The man who raised you is not your true father. And your mother has not been entirely truthful with you from what I have gathered these past ten years.”
“What do you mean?” I asked. “Your mother is a witch. She had been part of my coven before making the offering to Akothia. The Prime of the fae lands could feel her power even beyond the veil. When she transcended from this world to his, the Akothian Prime claimed her as his own and demanded an official declaration to make her his mate. You were sired by that fae.
I am not privy to the details of your mother’s escape or even what made her think it was in her own best interest, but when she left, she had already fallen pregnant with you. Before your birth, she met Ralian Altaire, the man you know as your father, and has been here ever since.” “You’re lying…” I felt everything and nothing all at once. Every molecule of air left my body.

1kitap1.com/en 1kitap1.com/en 1kitap1.com/en C Prologue amille Altaire was both a secret and a well-known name in Farlow. She had been called a miracle worker there as well as in Breaker’s Port and beyond. She healed wounds and cured ailments that often led men to an early grave. That woman was also my mother. Farlow was typically a rambunctious town. There were always beggars in the streets rattling old cans, the chatter of men making bets, or the howling of hounds to break up the quiet.
Yet that night was different. In the light of a full moon, it was not the sound of crickets nor barking dogs signaling the first warning that something was amiss, but an eerie silence blanketing the town. The Farlon citizens dispersed, tucked safely into their homes as they did each moon cycle. Even the stars shied away from sight, hiding from what lurked beyond.
Down the cobblestone path, a man howled as two others dragged his rigid body through the streets. His cries pierced the sullen silence of the city. Struggling against the man’s thrashing, they held fast to his waist as the group made their way down the road, seeking someone of discretion.
