Second Edition 2017 This Epub Edition 2018 ISBN: 978-93-5254-349-6 eBook by www.e-shabda.com 1kitap1.com/en 1kitap1.com/en A Spiritual Icon GURUDEV “Gurudev made mountains out of mountains, who thought themselves to be molehills.” Born as Rajinder Chanan in Hariana, a village 17 km from Hoshiarpur in Punjab, Gurudev had a regular childhood. One of six children, his father was a trader and his mother, a homemaker. Brought up in a humble home, Gurudev completed his education at DAV School.

Notorious as a young boy, he would stealthily pluck carrots and radishes with his friends from neighbouring fields and would be chased away by angry farmers. However, a unique thing about him was that since childhood he lit an earthen oil lamp every Thursday at the village dargah and spent hours at a temple near his house. In his early years, he would often leave home to spend time with holy men much older than him.

In the course of time, he attained many siddhis thereby acquiring spiritual energy. After graduating from high school (given his reputation, it was a surprise and shock to all), he came to Delhi and sold pens and sweets in buses for a living. It was during this period that his father went through a financial crisis and lost a lot of money in business. This put him in a financially tight spot with minimal help and support.

To complete his higher education, Gurudev moved to Delhi and lived with his paternal aunt. In order to compensate his stay with his relatives, he would help in the physical chores of the house. He would sometimes carry 20 kg of wheat on his back to the grinding mill. As luck would have it, he got admission in an overseer’s course at the PUSA Agricultural University in Delhi.

After graduating, he joined the agriculture ministry as a soil surveyor. Until this point, Gurudev’s life followed a normal course. However, at the age of 35, there was a sudden spiritual awakening in him. An inner voice asked him to go to Har ki Pauri in Haridwar and relinquish all his siddhis in the Ganges, which he did.

Gurudev knew this was the beginning of his spiritual journey, but he did not know the way forward. His inner voice also told him that a symbol of ‘OM’ had formed on his right palm.
