Alchemy N Mysticism – Alexander Roob

Here, the principles of Sol and Luna unite to form the lapis, the “philosophical mercury”, which crowns the dome in the form ofa phoenix. The zodiac indic- ates that the Work begins in May, in the sign of Taurus. Each sign of the zodiac corres- ponds to a chemi- cal substance. S. Michelspacher, Cabala, Augsburg, Philosophical tree This depiction of the Sephiroth tree is indebted to the Opus Magnum.
The dissolving and binding powers sit opposite one an- other on the branches: on the bottom left is volatile Mercury with the winged shoes, and to his right is the fire- spitting Sulphur. Above them, diag- onally reversed, are their formsina sublimated and crowned state. On the top level, the third Work, the two unite as the lunar tincture. From this there finally emerges the solid sulphur, the son of the sun.
He wears the crowns of the three realms, veg- etable, animal and mineral. J.D. Mylius, Anatomia auri, Frankfurt, 1628 ° Opus Macnum: Philosophical tree Opus Macnum: Philosophical tree Philosophical tree “Plant this tree on the lapis (…) that the birds of the sky come and reproduce on its branches; it is from there that wisdom rises.” (Theatrum chemicum) Aeneas, draped in majestic red, re- ceives from his son Silvius a branch of the tree of life; to protect him on his journey through decay and the purifying fires of the underworld.
The good endisin sight, for accord- ing to Trismosin the raven’s head has turned white. S. Trismosin, Splendor solis, London, 16th century Sephiroth The Sephiroth tree is at the core of the Cabala, its most influential and multi-layered symbol. The Sephiroth are the ten, primal numbers which, in combination with the twenty-two letters of the Hebrew alphabet, represent the plan of creation of all upper and lower things.
They are the ten names, attributes or powers of God, and form a pulsating organism called the “mystical face of God” or the “body of the universe”.
A fantastic journey through the history of esoteric lore The Hermetic Museum takes its readers on a magical mystery tour spanning an arc from the mediaeval cosmogram and images of Christian mysticism, through the fascinating world of alchemy to the art of the Romantic era. The enigmatic hieroglyphs of cabbalists, Rosicrucians and freemasons are shown to be closely linked with early scientific illustrations in the fields of medicine, chemistry, optics and colour theory.
