Those of the first Keplerian ended at the point where they met those of the second. He looked up and saw a puddle of dried blood. Further on a trail, together with the prints of the two pursuers, went on as far as the wooden fence at the end of the alley. There, amid waste and filth, was a body. It was Khaavmi. 1kitap1.com/en The abandoned base September 1, year 1 Magellan Base, Kepler-442b Emily could not believe her ears.

Deputy Director Green had just informed her of the deal he and Commander Bauer had made. With the arrival of the Khol apparently imminent, they had agreed to hand command of the base to Captain Harris so that he could draw up a defensive strategy without the frictions the different interests of both parties might generate. She knew that this was an enormous error, and that nothing she could say was going to change the decision.

It was making her furious. “I’m really sorry, Emily,” David told her. “But I had no choice.”´ “You could’ve refused.” “I don’t think so. Captain Harris is very persuasive, and deep down he might be right and he might be the best one to draw up a defense.” “But what are we going to do from now on?

We won’t have the independence we need to get our work done.” “We just finished setting up a base in Khapabir,” he pointed out. “But what about those of us who’re staying here at the base?” “Do I really need to remind you that the Khapabir base has room enough for your whole team?” She was left rather confused by what the Deputy Director seemed to be suggesting. “But….” She did not know what to say. “As far as I’m concerned, the fact that Captain Harris is taking command of the Magellan base doesn’t change anything about we’ve talked about before.

By this point the priorities of the project have changed radically, to the point that now we have only one.” She finished the sentence for him. “Looking for an alternative to a possible defeat.” David nodded. “That’s right. So you’ll have to find some way of taking everyone you consider necessary to the new base.” Emily considered the plan that was beginning to take shape in her mind.

Perhaps this change of events would be more helpful than it had seemed at first. Her stubbornness had blinded her to such an extent that she had not been aware of the positive side. If Captain Harris took command of the Magellan base, there would be no need for her to stay there any longer, which meant that she could move to Khapabir with the rest of her team to keep abreast of progress.

She gave in. “Okay, then. I think it could be interesting.”

The adventure continues in the next book: War Zone (Project Orpheus, Book 6) Note from the author: Acknowledgements Author See you in: War Zone (Project Orpheus, Book 6) 1kitap1.com/en 1 There is no hope August 23, Year 3286 Neil Armstrong base, Kepler-442b The hole torn in the fabric of space-time itself could barely be distinguished from the darkness of space. Only a few hours had passed since the space station Galileo had sounded the alert about an anomaly in space millions of kilometers from the planer. They would never have detected it with the naked eye, but Alan had picked up an unusual source of radiation from there.

Captain Tiffin immediately sent a probe to study the phenomenon, but it would take several hours to reach it. All they could do was wait. The previous time three probes had emerged from the anomaly; on this occasion nothing had appeared on the station sensors, or at least not yet. All the same, the phenomenon had alarmed the members of the expedition. Captain Tiffin and his crew had got ready for any contingency that might endanger the station. Director Rhodes, the area managers and all non-military personnel had been evacuated to the shelter which had been built over the previous few months on a plateau in the south of the range.

From the improvised command center in the lookout, Admiral Närhi was working against the clock to organize the defense of the Armstrong base. “Report, Lieutenant Rogers,” she called. “We’re in position,” came the reply. “We’ve placed the land vehicles along the base perimeter. We’re waiting for new orders, admiral.” “Thanks, lieutenant. Keep me informed.” On her terminal the admiral checked the positions of the armored vehicles. She had ordered them to be placed across the entire area of the base, even camouflaged among the prominent trees which surrounded it.

Over the last few hours much of the military personnel had been brought out of cryostasis until all the station’s vehicles and defense equipment had been put in place. Many of them had no experience in combat beyond the simulations and maneuvers they had been submitted to before forming part of the project. “Commander Zhao,” Admiral Närhi called on the radio. “What’s the situation up there?” “So far, all calm. We’ve finished deployment of the defense squadrons, and we’re waiting for orders.” “Thank you, commander,” The admiral sighed and turned to her right.

“We’re ready, Director Rhodes.” “Thank you, Admiral,” he said nervously.
