Her beautiful wrinkly baby cried and cried. And I caused it and felt nothing. I worried that being human was not a choice I would have much longer. I grabbed my phone and quickly dialed Simone’s number. 1kitap1.com/en I sat on my couch. Nervous. For what? I had already met Simone. She told me my creepy therapist knew ghosts and was in the black market for souls. And I was scared to tell her I had a demon situation? Ridiculous. Holly and Willow backed away from me.

If I called them, they came, albeit reluctantly. I would never hurt them. Animals were far better than people. Kristoff’s song about reindeer played in my brain. “Call her. Do it. She gave you her number. Call her.” Psyching myself up. I watched Mazikeen circling her tank. A happy ball python is a hiding ball python. Clearly, she was hungry. Mental note: write husbandry and care instructions from my sister. My sister and I weren’t close, or anything, but she loved animals.

She was a vet; she kind of had to. Would she care when I disappeared? Would anyone? Even Holly kept her distance from me. I was losing everyone but gaining what? A chaotic demon willing to let me devastate the world. Sadness splashed my face with it’s ice cold grip. I truly had no one to mourn me. Nobody would even notice.

A week, a month. I was going to be a true crime story;a documentary on how bodies decay when left alone to the elements, abandoned by people. Forgotten. I rubbed my temples with my fingers. “Get it together.” I jabbed Simone’s number into my cell, twitching fingers holding the phone.

It shook, rang. Once. Twice. Third time’s a charm. “Simone Ravenscroft.” What a beautiful name. Not like Lenora was plain or anything. “Hi, Simone. It’s Lenora. I have questions?” My voice shaky, unsure. “Is that one of them?” She chuckled, the distance making her voice soft. A laugh stuck in my throat. “No. Today I did something.” Silence stretched more times than sourdough in the proofing phase.

“Something? Andras related?” Disdain riddled her voice like bullets. “You don’t like him.”

Wasting her time, draining my wallet. “Lenora?” Her voice dripped with concern. A tone fabricated in graduate school for paying clients.

Caring about me was never high on anyone’s list of priorities. Therapists included. “Where did you go just now?” she asked. She expected an answer. After seeing Molly for over a year, I had caught on to her idiosyncrasies. She expected an answer and assumed it would be different than the 50 other times we had this conversation. I shifted on her gray leather couch. My legs peeled as I tried to move without drawing suspicion. “I went back to my life before.”

I said nothing more about unattainable dreams. Time travel floated through my mind. “Hmm.
