Action Target Event Object Condition Some triggers have additional fields (such as the state change shown below) and some have fewer fields. Conditions, p. 154 E-Learning Uncovered: Articulate Storyline 3 Event Comments Mouse Events User clicks User double clicks User right clicks These events work when students interact with certain objects. They can be applied to just about any object visible on the slide: buttons, text boxes, shapes, images, characters, etc. User clicks outside An action with this event triggers when the student clicks anywhere BUT the target object.

Mouse hovers over This event triggers an action when the students mouse is over an object but not clicking it. With this event, there’s an option to restore the action when the student’s mouse leaves the object. For example, if hovering caused an image to show, then leaving the object causes the image to hide. Be careful about using Mouse hovers over if you are deploying to touchscreen devices where hovering is not possible.

The trigger will act as a User clicks trigger on these devices. Object Events State This event triggers when the state of one or more objects changes to a certain state or to anything but a certain state. Learn about states in chapter 9. Animation completes This event triggers an action when an animation applied to an object completes. Learn more about animations on page 74. Object intersects Object intersection ends Actions will fire when one object overlaps with another object or stops overlapping with one or more other objects, such as when moving along a motion path or dragged by the student.

Object enters slide Object leaves slide These events trigger an action when an object comes on a slide or leaves a slide, such as from a motion path. For example, you might have one character leave when another one arrives. You can use the Timeline starts or Timeline ends events for a similar effect. Those are based on when the objects appear on the timeline, rather than when they appear on the slide, which may not always be the same thing.

Event Types Trigger with the State event 10. Triggers Event Types (cont’d) Event Comments Control Events Slider moves Dial turns This event triggers an action when the student drags a slider or turns a dial.
