It wouldn’t surprise me if I still feel it’s effects hours from now. Mari pulled a different shirt from my drawer, and her look is ethereal in the moonlight spilling over the bed from the window. I kiss her forehead, wanting nothing more than to spend the rest of my life with this woman. “I love you.” She traces my lip with her finger and smirks. “I love you too, oh Dark King.” 1kitap1.com/en Mari I stuff two apples into the side pocket of the bag Bastian loaded with assorted supplies this morning.

It’s only a half day’s journey to Tenny Rocks, but our extracurricular activities from the night before have my stomach rumbling. There’s something about the magic inside me that not only gives me more courage against the enemy but also in the bedroom. Every time he’s looked at me this morning, I swear my face flushes bright red. And I can’t help drooling over the way he moves his body. He bends over to pick up a weapon from the floor, and images of him behind me come rushing back.

He runs his fingers through his dark hair, and my fingers are there in my mind feeling their silky tendrils. I can’t get making love to Bastian out of my head. But I need to. A battle looms over us. Beyond that, Grayson or Evie will notice, and we we’ll never live it down.

Well over a week has passed since we left for Avren, and I’m excited to see my brother and sister. We also need to devise a new game plan if Chilon really is the other savior. At the weapons rack, I remove my bow and take stock of the arrows in my quiver. A warm palm rests on my shoulder, sending an immediate stream of warmth rushing through my body. His hand slips down my arm to my hip. He squeezes it. His lips brush my ear.

“Don’t get all awkward on me, Windsong.” No. But I just might melt into a puddle on the floor. Why does my whole body ignite with his touch? Something changed between us last night. In the past, I was always the reluctant novice, and he was the teacher, eager to show me his ways. But last night, it was as if we were on a level playing field. Maybe it goes back to our time in the cave, when I took charge.

We were finally equals in an adult relationship. He squeezes my hip and slaps my ass, bringing me right back to last night. “You want to play that way?” I chase him to the table where he suddenly turns around, leaning against it to face me. I stop short of running into his chest.

He snatches my wrist and pulls me to him, his face inches from mine, and my breath catches in my throat. “I’ve been thinking about your lips all morning.” I swallow, knowing I’ve thought about more than just his lips.

A warm arm envelops me as I gaze into the night sky, watching the glowing embers light up against the darkness. Bastian shifts behind me and lets out a light snore. We’ll be in Avren by tomorrow morning. Avren. The city of light and technologies so far removed from the wilderness where we now lie.

A place where I once dreamed of becoming a seamstress, creating dresses for the city’s elite to wear and boast about the woman who had crafted them. But now, I am so much more. I prop up on my elbow to search for our travel companion, or rather, our guard. Being a vampire, Sterling doesn’t sleep, so he’s the perfect Supe for the job of escorting Bastian to his birth parents in Avren. It’s an interesting game, trying to find his pale face along the outskirts of the meadow where we sleep.

When I do find him, he steps out of the shadows, his white shirt stained in blood. My stomach churns in disgust and anger—at him, at us. Why didn’t we let him take his fill? He’s done it before. But Bastian refused to let the vampire touch me, and likewise, I couldn’t unsee the bloodsucker’s fangs piercing my boyfriend’s neck, so he found his source elsewhere.

A pallid corpse may lie for their loved ones to discover because of our selfishness. I shift to face Bastian’s chest, burying my face in his cotton tunic, not wanting Sterling to know I saw him. We wake with the first light of dawn, bodies aching from lying on the ground and minds racing with what is to come when we walk into the city of our mortal enemies.

For me, it’s facing my mother’s murderers. For Bastian, it’s reuniting with his father and meeting his mother for the first time. Both equally daunting.
