Give your belongings to people who could use them. When decluttering your home or making a seasonal clothing transition, think about who could use your belongings. Would your children’s outgrown clothing help a family at church? Could a young couple get some good use out of furniture you no longer want? Would a neighbor enjoy something you are planning to get rid of?

Give it away…you may not realize what a blessing this could be. 3. Find reputable organizations you’d like to partner with. Not every organization that asks for money is fiscally responsible. Do your homework. And when you find an organization you trust, donate to the poor. 4. Create Blessing Bags and keep them in your car. This is as easy as one shopping trip. Buy gallon-size resealable plastic bags, along with: • Toothbrushes • Travel-size toothpaste • Travel-size hand sanitizer • Travel-size deodorant • Sample package of aspirin • Travel package of tissues • Razor • Safety pins • Soap • Bottle of water • Juice box • Filling snacks – granola bars, cereal bars, dried fruit, nuts, pre- packaged cheese and crackers • A gospel pamphlet Make sure each bag contains one of each item, and keep a stash of bags in your vehicle.

When you pull up to a stop light and see a person holding a sign asking for help, you can quickly reach out your window and cheerfully give a bag instead of looking the other way. (A simple “May God bless you, sir” – or “ma’am” – is all you need to say.) Once you give the bag, be sure to pray for the person you’ve helped. 5. Fill shoeboxes with children’s gifts for Operation Christmas Child. Do a quick search for a participating church in your neighborhood, and get shopping!

Helping the needy doesn’t have to be difficult, but you do need to do it with intention. Pray for your eyes to be opened to those who could use some help, and get ready to watch the Lord answer your prayers. Things to Think About 1. How have you helped the needy in the past?

What have you enjoyed doing? What seemed to be appreciated the most? 2. Think of your current responsibilities and availability. How much time can you give to helping the needy?

If you’re not familiar with her, the Proverbs 31 woman works hard…and it seems like she does everything exceptionally well. In an age of comparison, it can be easy to feel inadequate when you read about a biblical superwoman. I challenge you to take a different approach, though. Instead of focusing on how you can never measure up to her example, look at her life as an excellent biblical description of what women can do. Women can work hard and succeed. Women can be excellent wives and mothers.

Women can act as the very strong and capable backbones of their families. I’m thankful that the Proverbs 31 woman is included in the Bible because it gives specific inspiration for women. Instead of only wondering what homemakers, wives and mothers could or should do, this passage of Scripture details it for us. An Important Perspective As you read Proverbs 31, it’s important to remember that it’s a portrait of a woman’s lifetime, not a spotlight on a particular season.

If you feel like you can’t possibly do all she did, take a deep breath. She didn’t do it all at once. Figure out what is necessary right now in your current season of life, and concentrate on that. As time and energy allows, take on new tasks when given the opportunity and drop others. Just as it’s vital to remember that as we typically see the Photoshopped and absolute best versions of people’s lives on Facebook, Proverbs 31 highlights a woman’s triumphs.

She would’ve faced trials. She would’ve had bad days. She would’ve faced seasons of her life where work or family brought overwhelming challenges. Also remember that someone else (Lemuel) wrote this about her – she didn’t say the words about herself. While keeping this in mind, remember that far too often we are too hard on ourselves. How do other people view your successes?

How would someone else describe your strengths? We get to see her greatest hits…and they are great.
