She was knee-deep in an article when she ran smack into someone. All she saw was a cup of brown coffee splattering all over the shirt of the man in front of her. “Oh shit! I’m so sorry!” She quickly peeled off her headphones and looked at the mess she’d made.

“No, it’s my fault. I should’ve been watching where I was going,” he told her. “No, I was in my little zone on my phone. I’m so sorry! Oh my God, please let me buy you a new cup of coffee.” “I could use a new shirt instead.” He chuckled. Candice laughed softly and was happy that he’d taken things so lightheartedly.

The crash had happened so fast that she didn’t even notice she’d dropped her phone. She reached down to pick it off the pavement and saw the cracked screen. “Fuck!” she yelled. “You should have a screen protector on that.” “Huh?” she asked, frazzled and half listening. Instead of responding, the man pointed to her phone. She shrugged. “Oh. Yeah, it was on my to-do list.” “Guess you can scratch that off now, huh?” “Yeah, I guess I can,” she said, blowing out hot air.

“I’m Dimitri, by the way.” “Candice.” He extended his sticky hand to her, and out of guilt, she shook it. “Are you new here? I don’t think I’ve ever seen you before.” “Yeah, I’m new… transferred from an all-girls school.” “Wow, this must be a culture shock to you with all this testos- terone floating around campus.”

She snickered before nodding. “Yeah, it’s definitely different.” She looked into his eyes for the first time, soaking in his appear- ance. He looked good besides the dark brown coffee stain on his ini- tially crisp white T-shirt. His skin was a sun-kissed shade of brown, and he had a head full of curls on the top of his head that tapered into a fade toward the sides and the back. Black tattoo ink decorated his left arm down to his wrist. He had juicy, pink lips and a set of white teeth to complement them.

Perhaps what turned her on the most about him were his black-framed glasses. To her, they signaled education and class. “What were you looking at that had you so wrapped up in your phone?” “Oh, um. I was just doing some research.” “On what?” She could feel herself blushing and then shook her head. “Noth- ing, just some stuff for class.” “Oh, okay, at least you didn’t say porn or something,” he joked.
