CHI Kung For Radiant Skin – Mantak Chia

Taoists maintain that the heart is connected to the unconditional love available throughout the universe. It is the Lower Tan Tien, or the abdominal center, that serves as the body’s main biobattery; it stores large amounts of energy to supply the body’s needs. Since the skin is closely connected to the brain, anything that affects the brain will affect the skin.
Worry, anxiety, anger, or resentment, which overheat the brain, will cause skin problems such as rashes, red blotches, swelling, and so forth. When negative energy gets stuck in the heart, it causes overheating and overwhelm, blocking the heart’s radiance. Because the heart cannot hold too much heat, it will dump any negative emotional energy into the solar plexus, which affects breathing.
When the heart is overwhelmed with negative emotions such as grudges, resentment, and impatience, the skin is inevitably affected. When the brain, heart, and gut are disconnected and have forgotten how to work together, the person will have to wrestle with their inner conflicts and will often feel out of control in their life. In such situations the person will fight with their partner, shout at their children, eat food they know is unhealthy, and give in to the temptations of shopping, alcohol consumption, excessive TV watching, or sexual desires.
All these behaviors are symptoms of the body’s efforts to relieve the pressure of imbalanced energies. Since we do not have a portrait like Dorian Gray’s hidden in the attic, all these dark passions are going to leave their expressions on our skin. Taoist practice teaches us that it is very important to bring excess heat down from the brain and heart, to the Lower Tan Tien.
This means we must have a clear understanding of the location of the three major fires and know how to use the mind/heart/eye power to bring the excess heat down. The Three Fires The Upper Tan Tien fire is located in the center of the brain. It can be found by drawing an imaginary line first from the third eye to the back of the skull, then drawing another imaginary line connecting the tips of the ears, and finally drawing a line from the crown down to the perineum (fig.
8.6, p. 154). The Middle Tan Tien, or heart fire, can be located by drawing a line first from a point located one inch above the tip of the sternum on the • midline, to thoracic vertebra number 5 (T5), and then finding its intersection with the line that goes from the crown to the perineum. The Lower Tan Tien fire can be located by drawing an imaginary line from the navel to the Door of Life, which is the point on the spine opposite the navel, found between lumbar vertebras 2 and 3 (L2 and L3).
“Master Chia and Anna Margolina, Ph.D., have done an excellent job of explaining the skin as our third lung as well as describing how to clean and maintain the skin from the inside out with Taoist Chi Kung and meditations.” WILLIAM.
