There was plenty of temptation on off er in the Race Retro sale and further afi eld there’s even more. Twelve British classics from a single owner collection are to be sold by auction house Dore & Rees on 14 March.

Rare 1936 Austin 12/4 Taxi has coachwork by Jones Brothers and retains many original features, including its Halda meter and luggage rack. This is an interesting mix of primarily pre-war cars, with a clutch of immediate post-war Jaguars as well as an XK150 FHC – and there’s a fi rst- generation XK8 fi xed-head thrown into the mix as well. Interest in pre- war cars is still strong and the trio of Lea-Francis 12/40 P-types should sell, although probably to one of that select group of ‘LeaF’ enthusiasts rather than someone fancying their fi rst go on something pre-war, who would be more likely to go down the Austin Seven Ford Model A route.

Singers in the spotlight CLUBS The Singer Motor Club is to celebrate its 50th anniversary with a series of events. Club president and chairman, Simon Bishop, said: ‘This is an important year for us. We are holding events commemorating 50 years and there are Singer milestones to celebrate, too.’ First up is the Fat Lamb Touring Weekend, centred on the hotel of the same name in Ravenstone, Cumbria, with cars taking to the local roads on 29- 31 May, with full route details currently being drawn up.

Emphasis then shifts to the Isle of Wight with a four-day event held in conjunction with the Hillman Owners’ Club on 2-5 July. This will include cars travelling to the Isle of Wight Bus and Coach Museum on the Friday and a display Day Goddards Brewery on the Sunday.
