I couldn’t confuse what this was the way I’d confused fucking for intimacy with Drake. Levi was right; I was making what Aiden and I were doing into something it wasn’t, and bottom line was, our relationship was nothing more than a lie. But, that didn’t ring true, either. Whatever Aiden and I were, not everything about us was a lie. He was an amazing man and an incredible friend. After the way he’d come to my defense, I was going to do anything to hold on to that friendship, even when the time came to fake break up.

A big, meaty hand waved in front of my face, Burke’s scowl coming into focus. “Earth to Cole.” Shoving his hand away, I ignored Ford and Noah as they leaned into each other, stifling their laughter. “Dude’s got it bad.” Ford shook his head, his hands firmly planted on his hips, his lips quirking up in the corners. Noah crossed his arms, tilting his head toward Ford. “Seriously. Should we tell him Aiden had to run back to the bar for something?”

“What are you going on about?” I rearranged the condiments on the table for, what had to have been, the twentieth time. “Don’t think we don’t see you searching for your lover boy over there.” Ford wiggled his eyebrows, nudging his head toward Aiden’s tent. Levi stopped beside me, gripping the back of my neck. “Leave Cole alone. He knows the deal with him and Aiden, right, Cole?” I was sure the statement was meant to reassure me he had my back.

So, why did the comment feel like a sucker punch instead? It wasn’t like the thought hadn’t just crossed my mind that Aiden and I weren’t truly together, but hearing it out loud kind of stung. “Right.” My voice sounded weak, and there was nothing I could do about it. The truth sank like a rock in the pit of my stomach and my hands began to sweat. I was such an enormous jackass because I could see myself falling for Aiden, even though I knew I’d crash and burn once I hit the ground.

“Okay, everyone back to work,” Levi ordered, clapping his hands as if to say chop, chop. The next few hours flew by way too quickly. I looked at the time on my phone, dreading the next hour that I had to spend in that fucking kissing booth. I dragged my sorry ass across the way and up the aisle, ignoring the howls of laughter from those assholes formerly known as my friends.

Taking a chance, my gaze slid over to Aiden’s tent one more time, my heart skipping a beat when our eyes connected.

OceanofPDF.com “C CHAPTER 1 COLE ole, can you come to the front desk?

We’ve got some lovely guests here who would like to speak to a manager,” Miss Margie practically purred in her sweet-as-pie voice—the one she reserved for lovely guests—and abruptly hung up the phone. I sat there looking at the receiver in my hand and cursing under my breath. “Shit.” What the hell happened now? “You know better than to say you’re leaving out loud.

That’s when the shit hits the fan.” Levi tossed his pen on his desk, which faced mine in the small office we shared, and sat back in his chair. Selfishly, we’d made sure our office had an ocean view. One of the perks of living and working in paradise. “Did she say lovely?” “Sure did. How’d I end up as Hotel Manager for the Coral Pointe Inn again? It’s all a blur. Was I drinking? Can I take it back?

I want a refund on my poor decisions.” I slumped down in my chair and looked at the ceiling, shaking my fists above my head. “Whyyyy?” Levi’s shoulders shook, a rumble of a laugh rolling out of my so-called friend. “I’m pretty sure it’s your sunny disposition.
