Crafted From The Ashes Of Roses – Juliet Bellarose (1)

I stared, transfixed while Torsten took an old wooden stool from the corner and sat down, staring into the pool. “It shows the events happening in Midgard. Another gift from the gods. Whether it was a way for Sigyn to keep in touch with the outside world, or a way to torment Loki, it was rarely ever used.
Sigyn never left the room Loki was held in, either way. And Loki never came up here. But this is how we were able to find you.” I stared at the pool, but only saw my reflection staring back. “Ask for what you wish to see,” Torsten explained. “The magic will listen to and obey you.” I took a breath. “I’d like to see Earth. Or, Midgard. Whatever you guys call it out here.” Torsten gave a low chuckle. The pool swirled and shimmered, its surface trembling with unfelt vibrations.
An image of Earth appeared; however, it was a view from outer space. “You’ll have to be a bit more specific with it,” Torsten explained, and then scratched his chin. “Hmm. Although I would have asked to see something I’ve never seen before. I always imagined the first mortal to enter this castle would ask to see Asgard.” I took another breath, my hands shaking in anticipation. “Show me my home. My family. My followers I left behind. I want to see what’s going on, and if the people I love are okay.”
The mirror shimmered again, stronger this time until I could barely feel the vibrations through my winter boots, as though the magic was thinking harder. An image appeared before me. My mom and grandmother, standing at the front door of the farmhouse. Their eyes were red and weary, as though they’d been holding back tears. The image was vivid, as if the events were playing before my eyes, and not through a mirror. My mug slipped from my hands and crashed to the stone floor, breaking apart into thin shards of ice.
“Mom?” My voice broke. Torsten shook his head softly. “They can’t hear you. But you can hear them.” The vision zoomed out slightly, revealing more people standing outside the farmhouse with cameras and microphones. My grandmother’s voice was wavering, but her shoulders were taut, as though she were trying to keep herself emotionally strong. “No. We believe she is still alive somewhere.
We would have felt if something terrible happened to her. She’s strong. She always expects herself to be. She’ll find her way back home.” I saw my mom’s lower lip quiver before she turned back inside the farmhouse. “No. No! Mom, I’m alive! I’m coming back!”

OceanofPDF.com CHAPTER 1 Method to her Madness IT WAS A DARK AND FROZEN POLAR NIGHT. The sun never rises during the six winter months in Svalbard, and while my mornings usually entail snowstorms, matcha, or moonlight in my family’s warm farmhouse, today was… Different would be an understatement. Partially submerged in the depths of a frozen lake, surrounded by ice and snow, with just a flicker of civil twilight for me to stare death in the face.
This shit-show began twenty-four hours earlier, stepping off my connecting flight from Norway to Longyearbyen, Svalbard. My backpack was stuffed with my filming equipment, and my luggage with enough winter clothing to last me the month.
