She caught her breath, pressing her thighs together, or at least trying to, but Jasper’s body stopped her. When she opened her eyes he was leaning over her with a grin on his face, that for the first time she didn’t want to smack off. She wanted to kiss it off. So she did. Her arms snaked around his neck, pulling him close so she could bring his lips to hers and he wasted no time kissing her back.

Cameron did her best to manoeuvre, pausing when he resisted. She leant back, both of their breathing laboured and hard as they looked at one another. “What?” she asked, sensing his hesitation. He swallowed, this time it was his turn to be nervous. It hadn’t even occurred to her, and her hands dropped from his shoulders. “Do you–” “I want to,” he said quickly, cutting off what she realised was about to be a stupid question.

“I just haven’t. Not since I got all the scars.” “But you want to?” A smile ghosted his downturned lips, and then he nodded, smiling properly down at her. “Yeah, I want to, sunshine.” “Okay.” Jasper pushed up off her and Cameron almost whined at the loss of the feeling. It made her feel exposed, and she craved to have him close again. He crawled past her and adjusted the pillows, sitting against the headboard and then drew his eyes to hers.

He was nervous, anxious even, and she frowned, tilting her head. “What is it?” He sighed, raising his eyes to the ceiling. “Nothing. Sorry.” “Jas.” “I just haven’t taken my shirt off in front of someone for a long time.” Cameron nodded. She yearned to make him feel comfortable and give him a moment of peace in the same way he had done for her.

If they were going to go ahead and do it, and if the protrusion in his trousers and her full body want was anything to go by, they both wanted to do it, then they had to both be all in.

It also wasn’t exactly what she’d had in mind when she had turned up for a simple birthday dinner with her family. Then again, maybe she should have thought twice when one of said best friends (who was excruciatingly pregnant) joked about how funny it would be if Cameron and the new baby had the same birthday. Funny fucking joke, Tessa Shaw. Thirty five candles remained unlit on a beautiful, homemade, three- tier chocolate cake while Cameron clutched the brand new baby that she had just delivered to her chest.

Both she and her nine hundred dollar Aureliano jacket were covered in things she didn’t want to dwell too much on. Dare she say, however, it was all worth it to gaze at the innocent little soul she’d just had a hand in bringing into the world. It wasn’t exactly planned that way, and she certainly wasn’t prepared for it, but the second the newborn had cried out amongst the chaos, everyone in that kitchen almost sobbed with relief. Distantly, Cameron heard the trampling of boots and questions from new voices about what had happened and where the patient was, but she was completely in an alternate universe looking with adoration at her new nephew.
