Dhoka – Swatisandeep

“Really, Agastya? Who was dictating the law a few seconds ago?” Another sound blasted from the speakers. Andy immediately buried his face in Agastya’s neck. “Stop the damn movie!” Agastya snapped. “Dikh nahi raha? Bachcha dar raha hai! (Can’t you see the kid is scared?)” Abhay shrugged. “Kyun, Bhai? Ab mujhe toh movie dekhni hai. (Why, bro? Now I want to watch it.)” Aniket chimed in. “Mujhe bhi. (Me too.)” Anika raised her hand.
“Mujhe bhi. (Me too.)” Agastya stared at the three of them in disbelief. He moved to turn the movie off, but Andy grabbed his wrist. “Kya hai? (What is it?)” Agastya muttered. Andy gave him wide puppy eyes. “Please na, Bhaiya… Mera bahut mann hai. (I really want to watch.)” Agastya frowned. “You can’t even look at the screen, Andy. Why do you want to watch it? Look what you just did.” Andy grinned sheepishly and plucked a piece of popcorn from Agastya’s hair. “Sorry, Bhaiya… please let me watch.”
Agastya sighed. He couldn’t win against all four of them. He brushed the popcorn off his head and sat back down, resigned. The next two hours would be torture. He knew it and resigned himself. Andy did not disappoint. Every time he got scared, he dug his nails into Agastya’s arm. By the halfway mark, Agastya’s arm was actually bleeding.
At some point, Andy’s weight slumped against him. Agastya glanced down. The boy had fallen asleep mid-movie. He must have been exhausted. Agastya let him rest; this movie was never meant for him, anyway. When the movie ended, everyone stretched and stood up . Abhay spotted Andy sleeping and chuckled. “Lo, Nawab Sahab toh so gaye. Aur inhe dekhni thi movie.
(Look, Nawab Sahab has fallen asleep. And he was the one who wanted to watch.)” Aniket nodded. “Iski yehi aadat hai, Bhaiyu. Bas horror dekhna hai, aur sabse zyada dar bhi isi ko lagta hai. (This is his habit. He wants to watch horror, and he’s the one who gets scared the most.)” Agastya waved them off. “Come on, let him be. Jab dekho bas mere bachche ko pareshaan karte rehte ho dono. Tum dono ka kuchh nahi ho sakta.
(You two are always troubling my kid. There’s no hope for either of you.)” He reclined the seat and tucked a blanket around Andy. Abhay and Aniket exchanged a knowing look. As long as Agastya was around, no one could say a word against the Raizada Prince. They counted on that love, and that was exactly why they teased Andy so much. As long as Agastya played the parent, they could relax and act like the annoying elder brothers they were born to be.

The twins were coming home. The house buzzed with quiet excitement, every corner touched by the promise of reunion. For days, gloomy clouds had lingered over them, but now, hope returned, bright as a sun after a storm. The doors opened with joy, and with them, so would the next chapter of their lives. Abhay helped Agastya get down. Andy rushed forward to help but stopped when he saw Abhay holding his bhaiya.
