She planted her foot and burst forward once more! Leon’s scalp prickled with fear, and he spun around to flee. But the moment he moved, a gunshot boomed out once more! The bullet ripped viciously past his thigh, tearing away a large chunk of flesh! “Aaah—!!!” Leon screamed as he collapsed into the snow, clutching his leg and convulsing.

Before he could struggle to roll over, Rosa was already upon him. She planted her foot on Leon’s shoulder, leaned down, and stared coldly at his face, contorted with terror. “You betrayed my trust?” “Leon, you deserve to die.” As the words fell, a dagger plunged straight into his throat! Thud! Blood gushed out violently. Leon’s eyes widened in shock; his hands flailed frantically for a moment before he went completely still.

The snowy landscape fell silent for a split second. Cole’s face finally turned completely pale. This isn’t right. None of this is right! He was supposed to be the one collecting the bodies. But now, his men were falling one by one, and Leon was dead! “Retreat!” Cole finally growled through clenched teeth. “Retreat now!!” But by now, it was too late to retreat.

Rosa slowly raised her head; her red eyes glowed eerily in the firelight. She fixed her gaze on Cole, her voice cold and trembling. “You think you can just walk away?” “Cole, weren’t you feeling pretty smug just a moment ago?” The next second, she planted her foot and burst forward once more! Cole’s face paled, and he turned to run. But no matter how fast he was, how could he possibly outrun Rosa now? In the blink of an eye, Rosa had caught up behind him and brought her blade down with a vicious slash!

Thud! The blade sliced diagonally across Cole’s back, tearing open a gaping, bloody wound! “Aaaah!!!” Cole let out a blood-curdling scream, plunging headfirst into the snow before scrambling forward on all fours. This time, he was truly terrified. If he didn’t run now, he really would die here tonight! “Help me!” “Stop her!!” The remaining henchmen were already scared out of their wits—who dared to stand in her way?

This story was born from a simple question: What if the sun never rose again? What would you choose to protect, when the dark comes for everything? Thank you for joining伊森 on his journey through the Eternal Night. I hope you find a little light in these pages.

— Lyra Vance 2026 OceanofPDF.com PROLOGUE The screen in front of me flickered, the game’s final loading bar stuttering to a halt. “Connection lost. Server shutdown in 10 seconds.” I groaned, slumping back in my chair. All night, I’d been grinding the new survival mode—Eternal Night, a game where the sun never rose, and every candle felt like a lifeline.

My shelter was just a beat-up wooden hut, my only weapon a rusted knife, and I’d just spent three hours building a fire that wouldn’t go out. “5… 4… 3…” The lights in my apartment flickered. “2… 1…” Black. Not the kind of black that comes with closing your eyes. The kind that feels alive, cold, hungry. I could hear it breathing, a low, guttural sound just outside the walls of… something. I wasn’t in my chair anymore.

I was in a hut. A beat-up wooden hut. And in the center of the room, a single, sputtering candle was the only thing keeping the dark at bay. A voice, cold and flat, echoed in my head: Welcome to the Eternal Night, Player. Your shelter is Level 1. Survive.
