Feel free to take extras for later. I ordered you all plenty,” I chuckle. “We will begin the presentation on ethical dilemmas in research in fifteen minutes.” I watch as the students mingle and grab food. My eyes catch Savanna standing in line. She styled her hair in a bob, and she looks gorgeous. I stare a bit too long, and she glares at me.

“James,” Alicia’s voice cuts through my thoughts, and she steps in front of me, blocking my view of Savanna. “Yes, Alicia?” I ask, masking my irritation. She tucks a blonde lock behind her ear. “I’m having trouble with my research project. Can we meet this week to discuss it?” “Sure. Just send me a calendar invite, and I’ll confirm it,” I respond, keeping my tone professional even as my mind wanders back to Savanna. I glance past Alicia, seeing Savanna now reaching for a piece of fruit. My thoughts drift to the memory of being between her legs, right where I belong.

Her hands tangled in my hair as she came on my face. I take a deep breath, trying to get myself together. I shift my focus back to Alicia. The last thing I need is to have a hard-on during my presentation. “Thank you, James. I’m looking forward to it,” Alicia says with a hopeful smile, her eyes lingering on mine a moment longer than necessary. I nod, unsure how to respond. I’m used to students vying for my attention, but I’ve always kept my distance. Alicia has been persistent since she took my class last fall.

Despite my initial reservations, I allowed her to become my GRA because of her qualifications. The room settles down as I begin my lecture. I dim the lights and move to the front, ready to engage my students. This is where I shine. This is what I love doing.

“Today, we are talking about ethical dilemmas. Has anyone encountered any yet?” I ask, standing at the podium, hoping to prompt some discussion. The room remains silent, with students exchanging uncertain glances. “First, who can tell me what an ethical dilemma is?” I prompt, trying to encourage participation. “It’s when a researcher faces a conflict between two choices between two or more ethical principles. They have to make a conscious choice to decide the right course of action,” Alicia answers confidently. “Correct. So, let’s be real here.

Ethical dilemmas are very common.

Clark, why do you want this GRA position?” Professor Austin asks me. I wet my lips, my mind racing to process his question. My spine straightens involuntarily as I shift. “I love data collection, research, numbers, and statistics. I love understanding why people commit crimes, and this position will allow me to utilize my research skills to help increase your productivity so you can focus on other things, and I can make a difference,” I say, smiling proudly knowing that he’s impressed by me. “Such a textbook answer.”

He huffs. “What’s the real reason you’re here,” Professor Austin says, raking his fingers through his blond hair that dusts his shoulders. His bluntness catches me off guard, and I almost tilt my head. Excuse me?
