Hop Skip And A Wedding – Alanna Fraser

My feet barely lifted off the ground when Joel’s hand grabbed my wrist. I looked at him over my shoulder. “May I help you?” “Don’t you want me to come with you?” I pushed off his hand. “No thanks. You’re having an engaging conversation with the boys. Don’t mind me.” “Yes Joel, let the poor woman be.” One of the men said with a booming laugh, clearly having one too many drinks. I felt his eyes on me as I walked through the crowd, trying to get my bearings and remember where up from down was.
Was the bathroom over here? Jesus, they should really have signs with this type of information. A hand latched onto my upper arm and I let out an annoyed huff. “Listen Joel I—” I whirled with the intention to cause a scene, annoyed that the man wouldn’t give me any breathing room but Caden was watching me with a question in his eyes. “Sunflower?” Thank the heavens. My shoulders slumped and I dropped my head on his chest. “I want to leave.”
He ran a soothing hand down my back. “Let’s go.” Wrapping an arm around my shoulders he took my clutch from me and led me towards where the stairs were. My eyes were fighting to stay open and my mouth felt weird. I wanted to sleep so badly. “Caden, I’m tired.” His steps became faster, trying to get me out of the room as quickly as possible.
“How much have you had to drink?” “I don’t remember.” I genuinely didn’t know. It all started becoming a blur soon after I left with Joel. The faces, the drinks, the conversations. “Can you hold out until we’re in the lobby?” His voice was fading in and out while the entire place was spinning around me. “I’ll try.” My voice didn’t sound like my own. It was low, slurry, and filled with sleep. Probably because my mouth felt like it was being filled with cotton. Caden stopped at the foot of the stairs, growled, “Fuck it” under his breath and picked me up bridal style, taking the stairs two at a time.
“Certainly haven’t skipped leg day,” I grumbled, my eyes closing against its own volition. “Good night.” Everything faded to black.

OceanofPDF.com Prologue Caden She was doing it again. When everyone was walking towards their next class or appointment, she was standing in the middle of the courtyard with her head tipped towards the sky.
Her eyes closed, and a small smile lit up her usual deadpan expression. There were many instances where I’d pass her doing this without giving it much thought, but after today’s mock trial exam, Linnea Jackson managed to do the one thing that has never happened before; leave me speechless. Dare I say, completely and utterly fascinated too. The needling feeling I always got where she was concerned was still there, but this time, something else was brewing. Something was forming deep within my gut and spreading its way through my chest, digging into parts that were unknown to me.
