Impetus – Stein Willard

More dangerous than any we’ve ever attempted.” He sighed. “I expect casualties. Perhaps even my own or my mother’s.” Orna shot to her feet, startling Leos, who also came to his feet, looking a little confused. “Milady?” “Don’t say things like that,” she said, her voice a little hoarse. “That is not the kind of mentality you should take to the frontline with you.” “I know. But this time I need to think of my son too.
I wished for you to find him and…” He swallowed, his Adam’s apple moving up and down. “I would be forever indebted to you if you could be his guardian should anything happen to my family and we don’t return.” Orna felt her eyes well up. The thought of him not returning was incredibly painful, worsened by the thought of Toire suffering the same fate.
Arcanians were known to be fearless, and for Leos to agonise over this now only proved just how perilous this mission was going to be. “Give me all the details, and I’ll make sure that she is brought here immediately.” Leos flinched, shocked as he looked at her. “Bring her here?” Orna took a careful step toward the warrior, looking up at him. “You need a reason to return, and seeing your son might just be it.”
She watched as Leos’ mouth moved, but no words came out. He moved, and she took a startled step back but wasn’t quick enough, as he easily lifted her off her feet and gathered her in a tight embrace. She was too shocked to say anything but found that she wasn’t as disturbed by the embrace as she should’ve been.
The soft clearing of a throat made them both look at the door, where Toire stood, her face unreadable. Knett stood next to her with a slack look of shock on his face. “The…uh… the general wanted to see you as well, milady.” *** Toire wasn’t sure what to think, seeing Orna in her son’s arms.

But that existence is being threatened by a rare mutation that is seeing the Off-World’s population declining as they’re experiencing a growing baby drought. Despite fears of potentially polluting their valued, pure human lineage, Lady Orna Hessep, the President of the Off-World, is forced to approach the galaxy’s foremost eugenics institute to find probable matches across the galaxy to stem their alarmingly declining birthrates. An unanticipated error at the Galactic Repopulation Institute unearths a shocking discovery that challenges the Off-Worlders’ claim of being the oldest and purest descendants of early humans when a perfect match is found in the unlikeliest of places.
OceanofPDF.com DEDICATION To my readers. Thank you for your continued support. You rock! OceanofPDF.com PART I Planet Earth, circa 2440 The sound of rushed footsteps made Gilme look up from the data she was reviewing on the palmreader in her hand. The atmosphere and pace in the building were generally very relaxed, with very little to almost no excitement. That changed about fourteen hours ago, when a major mistake in the allocation department had caused a massive upheaval that saw the top brass of the institute lock themselves up in the conference room for the past ten hours.
The instructions were clear. No interruptions under any circumstances. She had a sneaky suspicion that that order was about to be violated. The door opened to reveal an anxious-looking junior technician. Her eyes scanned the lab until they fell on her.
