Into The Darkness – Amberly Evans

There are reporters and cameras out the front.” Everything Mia was afraid of was happening. The life she had painstakingly built for herself, was over. OceanofPDF.com Richard talked all the way home, but Mia didn’t hear a word he said. She dozed off twice, only to jolt awake when images of dead women entered her mind. Outside her apartment, a crowd of people stood, waiting for her.
There were news vans parked down the street and reporters and camera crews on the sidewalk outside the lobby. She didn’t have the energy to face it all. “Take me around the back and through the alley,” Mia told him as she dug in her purse for keys. Please let the basement door key be on there, she prayed. It was.
“Do you want me to walk you up?” “No. I need to do this myself.” Mia’s legs were wobbly as she got out of the car. “Thank you, Richard.” “Mia, don’t talk to them again unless I’m with you. You should have called me right away, you know.” “I was so scared. I didn’t think of it.”
In truth she thought she would be safe with Nick. Just the thought was like getting punched in the stomach. “I’m turning off my cell and unplugging my house phone. I will call you in a couple of days to see how this is going to affect the business.” “Okay,” Richard nodded. Mia ran down the cement steps and faced the solid steel door which led to the basement.
She put the key in and tried to turn it, but it wouldn’t budge. “Oh, no.” She tried again and again. Finally, on the fourth try, it gave and just in time. She could hear people’s voices coming up the alley. “I saw that car turn in here,” a man said.
Mia pulled the door open as quietly as she could and stepped inside. She closed it the same way.

Her gypsy blood has given her the ability to see visions, spirits and sense other emotions. Orphaned at thirteen, she has been on guard for those who only want her money, even her own relitives. Mia’s psychic abilities don’t sit well with Nick White, a NYPD homicide detective, who has turned his back on his Cherokee heritage because he doesn’t believe in anything he can’t see, touch or put cuffs on until he meets Mia and she shows him that there is more to life than what we see.
OceanofPDF.com CHAPTER ONE Mia stared out the window of her apartment at the lights on the Manhattan Bridge. She loved the view from the fourth floor, but tonight she felt anxious and tense. The air all around her was vibrating with energy that always preceded one of her dreams. It was late and she was exhausted. She had stayed up most of last night painting and she couldn’t fight off sleep any longer.
Lifting the covers, she slid in and closed her eyes.
