Barbara Yelin IRMINA Afterword by Dr Alexander Korb Some years ago, | found a box of diaries and letters among my late grandmother’s things. That find was the inspiration behind this graphic novel. But what | really discovered in that box was a question – a disturbing question about how a woman could change so radically. Why did she turn into a person who did not ask questions, who looked the other way, one of the countless passive accomplices of her time?
The historical background to this story has been carefully researched, and advice was provided by the historian Dr Alexander Korb. If you want to learn more about the historical context, | would highly encourage you to read his afterword at the end of this book. | have, however, used artistic licence for the plot: the people represented here, their biographical relations and many of the settings have been freely interpreted for dramatic purposes.
All names are fictitious. | would particularly like to thank my family for permitting me this freedom and encouraging me to make this book. Barbara Yelin, Munich 2015 Part One LONDON there! On the JA | i —_
