I’ll buy your buffet ticket,” I said. “I want you fueled up for the day.” “Really?” “Yes. See? I’m not a bad boss.” Kurt jumped out of bed. I sat on the recliner in the corner and waited for him to get ready. After I had read a few news articles, Kurt stepped out and told me he was good to go. The main dining room was something to behold. Two of the largest chandeliers I’d ever seen hung from the coffered ceiling, seemingly held up by six wide Roman columns evenly spaced throughout the room.

The chafing dishes, each silver and spotless, wafted the heavenly smell of butter and bacon to my nose. Each table and chair were seemingly designed to impress nobility. We were seated and I was disappointed to find my chair wobbled just a hair. I ordered coffee and Kurt asked for orange juice.

The food was just as good as it smelled. Buttermilk biscuits that disappeared under sausage gravy, thick bacon, and some of the softest eggs I had ever eaten filled me up in a hurry. I wished my stomach was bigger. Kurt and I ate in silence, despite his questions. I told him I couldn’t think straight before a few cups of coffee, but really, I just wanted to enjoy the meal in peace. Thinking about what was ahead of us that day would’ve distracted me from the food on my plate.

Warm French toast and a third cup of black coffee rounded out one of the best meals of my life. “All right,” I said, throwing my napkin on top of my empty plate. “It’s ten o’clock now. Why don’t you go find me some protection against the ghosts. I’ll go to the electronics store to look for cameras. Let’s meet in the lobby around noon and go from there.” “What kind of protection?” Kurt asked. “Something physical. I don’t want the ghosts to be able to touch me.”

Kurt nodded and then said, “Henry? Would it be okay if I borrowed some money? I just paid my rent and I’m a little light. You can take it out of my next check.” “That’s fine.”

– Laura Bilodeau, author of Dr. Grinsaw “A classic ghost story in the vein of Matheson, Poe, or Jackson—filled with mystery—color me impressed. I’ll be watching for more from this author and you should too” – Chisto Healy, best-selling author of The Gateway in Apartment 8 “Fast-paced, scary, fun, dark, a little whiskey, all the things that make a solid story.

The ghosts may sleep; you will not.” – Michael Carter, author of Boneyard Tales “Let the Ghosts Sleep is a classic ghost story filtered through a darker, more modern lens. Agre paints a vivid picture of a haunted hotel off the coast of Georgia. The secrets of Crane Island will stay with you for a long time.” – Praise for “Let the Ghosts Sleep” Bryan Holm, Author of Satanic Static “Keller Agre’s debut novella Let the Ghosts Sleep is an examination of fame culture, the occasional exploitative nature of true crime podcasts, and the lengths one will go to stay relevant and rich.

Featuring an unlikable main character I loved to hate and the literal and metaphorical ghosts of his past, Agre provides a refreshing, twisty take on classic haunting tropes, culminating in a satisfying, full-circle conclusion. You won’t wanna “sleep” on this one!” – Chloe York, author of Our Devil’s Awake “Let the Ghosts Sleep carries a wisp of old-fashioned southern charm, not unlike the Georgia coast it visits. As an ambitious podcast host examines two serial killers more than a hundred years apart, the ghosts — both literal and figurative — in this novella scratch at the thin veneer of Deep South gentility, money, and fame addiction, exposing the ugliness beneath them.

A haunting read from a new voice in horror.” – Michael Wehunt, author of The October Film Haunt and Greener Pastures OceanofPDF.com To my partner, Caitlin. OceanofPDF.com OceanofPDF.com “…AND THAT’S OUR SHOW. Will the Marie College Maimer strike again this weekend?
