She still had feelings for him and they were growing stronger. These past weeks felt wonderful. Like they were a real family. She hoped in the end that it would be real. A thought popped into her mind. She wanted to run her hands across his chiseled abs and lick him from behind his ear to discover new ‘spots’. She smiled seductively. “Something funny?” He questioned her. Her eyes widened in horror. She didn’t think Adrian was glaring so immensely at her. Just then, the waitress appeared with Sprites for all of them.

“Your food will be out shortly.” She nodded her head. “Nothing, I was just thinking about something.” “Oh, okay.” He inserted his straw into his Sprite. Get your mind out the gutter. “Jordan, you will be attending first grade in the fall, right?” “Yes, ma’am,” he answered. He was engrossed with sipping Sprite through the straw. There were so many things she wanted to tell Jordan, like what ethnicity he was and stories from her childhood. She wanted the truth to be told to her son. Somehow, she had to come up with a plan.

Yoslyn chuckled and smile inwardly. “Spicy Jalapeno Cheddar Sirloin with a side of loaded baked potato and hand chopped salad?” The waitress asked. Adrian held up his hand and the waitress placed the hot food in front of him. “Macaroni & Cheese meal?” Jordan raised his hands as the waitress placed the plate in front of him. Last but not least, Yoslyn was served Grilled Chicken & Stuffed Portabella with seasoned rice Pilaf.

In between bites of her food, Yoslyn asked Jordan what he was going to do for the rest of the summer. “My daddy says I’m going to stay with granny awhile and then he said he was going to take me fishing.” “Wow, I bet that will be special.” Adrian watched the smoothness of the conversation. It was almost like a real family. “So, what are you going to do for the rest of the week, Yoslyn, since you’re leaving next weekend?”

Stopping at the entrance of her parents’ home, she took a deep breath and slowly exhaled. It was time to reveal her dark secret. She pulled out a set of spare keys and entered her parents’ home. She instantly heard their voices and strolled toward the kitchen.

Was she nervous? No. There wasn’t a hello or a good morning. “T’m pregnant,” she announced. Without looking up from his breakfast, Yoslyn’s father asked, ““Who’s the father?” “Tt’s your last year at ECU. Why would you get pregnant?” Her mother questioned her in a heavy Spanish accent. “Have you lost your mind?” She ignored her father’s question on purpose. “I know I’ve disappointed y’all, but this is my life.” “Your life!” Her father raised his head slightly and pointed at himself.

“You got the audacity to come in my house to announce you’re pregnant. I’m the hospital administrator and this is how you thank me by getting knocked up.” Her feelings were hurt. Her spirit was bruised. All her parents cared about were appearances. “Where is your head? I thought I raised a smarter child than what you appear to me. Looking at you right now disgusts me. I dare you to stop me. If you want to continue school, then you’ll be attending school somewhere else, away from me and my career.”

He sighed. “Instead of East Carolina University where I’ve put money into.
