Increasingly frustrated at the rather gloomy, dark feel of the kitchen – despite its impressive size – and their inability to enjoy any views of the garden, they began to plan how to solve the problem. ‘We looked at all sorts of options, including extensions, before coming back to our first – and simplest – idea, which was to replace two tiny windows with a huge – 4m-plus – window and add a new side window,’ she says.

‘This gave us a 180-degree view of the garden and brought in so much more natural light.’ After visiting several kitchen companies, they settled on Roundhouse for its streamlined designs suited to their classic-contemporary taste. Finished in a matt lacquer green, chosen to reflect the garden views, the central island is clad in fluted oak for tactile contrast. ‘I love earthy, natural materials, because they are so beautiful to touch,’ says Tracie, who selected a dramatic Verde Fantastico stone for the island top and Calacatta Monet marble for the splashbacks and wall run.

‘The marble is gently reflective and boosts the sense of golden light in the room, as do the touches of brass,’ she adds. With the island forming the central workstation in the room, an L-shaped run around the walls puts oven and sink zones in easy reach.

Life and art come together in this Lisbon flat, which is home, studio and gallery (p67) This home has been designed to offer the best in inside-outside living (p28) One couple turned a former care home into their perfect private residence (p20) Time-worn vintage finds give this Georgian townhouse a rustic, whimsical appeal (p35) This charming Cornish bolthole boasts endless English charm (p40) no.6 no.2 no.7 no.4 no.9 no.3 no.8 no.5 no.10 SEE INSIDE MORE REAL HOMES THAN ANY OTHER MAGAZINE Building on the country lane she grew up on was a dream project for this homeowner (p8) no.1 April 2026 4 | 25BH APRIL 2026 Rethinking the window placement has revolutionised this kitchen (p74) Elegant contemporary interiors imbue this urban house with a serene feel (p106) Radiant colours work brilliantly in this home, creating an uplifting and party vibe (p132) Statement pieces evoke a feeling of timeless luxury in this penthouse apartment (p88) The owners created a beautiful space to showcase a statement bath (p116) A Victorian townhouse has been modernised for an art-loving family (p140) Neutral hues and plants link this home’s interiors with its beautiful rural surroundings (p78) A home filled with personal treasures reflects the character of its owner (p112) This decorative bedroom scheme embraces the owner’s love of fabric (p138) This idyllic country cottage is the ideal retreat for hosting friends and family (p94) Creating a home with relaxed elegance was the brief for an updated new build (p118) This home’s park views were the starting point for its nature-inspired schemes (p144) Stealing space from the garage enabled the creation of this fabulous family kitchen (p102) Meticulous planning turned a tired 1930s semi into a stunning family home (p125) A centuries-old manor house is decorated in a way that celebrates its history (p150) no.11 no.16 no.21 no.12 no.17 no.22 no.14 no.19 no.24 no.25 no.13 no.18 no.23 no.15 no.20 Shopping Beautiful buys to steal the style of a few of our houses (p18, p87 and p158) Design solutions Three inspiring ideas from this issue to try in your own home (p162) ✚ 25BH APRIL 2026 | 5 EDITOR’S LETTER FIONA MACE, EDITOR Should your head or your heart rule your decision when it comes to choosing a home?

The emotional sway of family was a big consideration for homeowner Francesca Cura.
