I wasn\u2019t about to be mad at her for having my back. Bill, on the other hand, had some fucking nerve to be sitting across the table looking at me with the same eye I\u2019d just blacked.<\/p>\n

They were still pushing to speed up production, as if the decision hadn\u2019t already been made. It was nothing a nigga could say to make me change my mind. This meeting was over before it had even started. I was only sitting here to be polite since I knew one of them would probably be filing a lawsuit soon. \u201cAnd that girlfriend of yours, you probably need to tell her to stay in her place,\u201d Bill grumbled, shooting daggers in my direction.<\/p>\n

I was playing with a stress ball under the table. It was a habit that proved useful in times like this. Bill was more annoying than anything else, and he was making it hard for me to maintain my composure. \u201cYeah, that would definitely be a good idea. She caused the whole disruption last night,\u201d Bill\u2019s hype man chimed in by dick riding, but he made the situation worse for him and his homeboy.<\/p>\n

I came in here intending to let what they said last night slide. They talked shit and got punched in the mouth. In my opinion, it was all said and done. I didn\u2019t care about people speaking on my name. I\u2019d been the topic of conversation most of my life, especially during my time in the Army. People could see you doing good and love you to death.<\/p>\n

I wasn\u2019t going to leave without saying goodbye to my grandma. However, I did want to make the process of leaving the day after Christmas as easy as I could, but she had caught me like she always did. My grandma was the sweetest lady I knew, which made letting her down heartbreaking.<\/p>\n

Still, it seemed like letting her down was all I had been doing since I left home in search of my purpose. Sadly, I still didn\u2019t know what that purpose was, or maybe it just hadn\u2019t found me yet. She stood in front of me wearing her housecoat, which she kept closed with her hand. Her hair was covered by the bonnet she wore only at night and rarely outside of her bedroom.
