“We’re here for the guild, okay? Focus up.” But even as he said it, he couldn’t stop himself from noticing the details. The street was paved with stone, not dirt. Real drainage channels were running along the buildings. Everything was generally clean, which hadn\u2019t normally been the case for small, relatively unimportant towns like this one.<\/p>\n

Five hundred years ago, a place like this would have been a muddy sprawl of shacks, lit by nothing but stars and whatever fire you could scrape together. Now? Even a “newbie backwater” had solid infrastructure. Cooper couldn’t help thinking about how much things had changed. How different everything was with magic so tightly woven into daily life. A part of him wondered if this was all thanks to him finally ridding the world of the Dark Lord so long ago.<\/p>\n

Was it because they didn\u2019t have to gear up to fight a war every century anymore that they had the time to accomplish all of this? He sure hoped so\u2014not out of vanity, but so that he knew all of his sacrifices, fighting, and pain had been worth it in the end. The thought was comforting.<\/p>\n

He glanced up to notice Peach had a notebook out, cataloging every detail. Her eyes flicked from one thing to the next as she drew pictures and added explanations. She even stopped to ask a few merchants how certain things worked. They finally reached the Adventurers\u2019 Guild, which was honestly way more impressive than Cooper remembered from the old days. The building had giant wooden doors with sigils that glowed when they automatically opened, which was not a thing back in his day.<\/p>\n

He stepped inside and was instantly assaulted by the scent of fur, sweat, and fried meat. The mana in the air hit his eyes like a waterfall. Cooper deactivated his ability to see magic before he got a headache from trying to trace all the flows. Rey\u2019s jaw dropped. \u201cHoly shiz. Holy shiz! This is, like, every manga guild hall ever, but even better!\u201d She practically vibrated with excitement, dragging Cooper forward by the sleeve as if she was a kid at Disneyland hopped up on pixie dust and Red Bull.<\/p>\n

\u201cLook at the screens with available quests on them. Are those the magical version of LCD panels?\u201d She sucked in a breath and gasped. \u201cWait, are those live quest feeds?!\u201d<\/p>\n

And finally, we are still working on Trailer Park Bikini Vampires, which is expected to conclude this year. And, yeah, I\u2019m sure we\u2019ll collaborate again. It\u2019s a lot of fun. So, why am I here, in your precious Edgar + Gwen book? Well, mainly to let you know that Edgar decided to write a character in this book named after me which he is worried might offend my fans.<\/p>\n

I\u2019m just here to let you know not to be offended on my behalf. Edgar is my beloved son (adopted, and technically only a year or two younger than me, but still), and Gwen is my sweet daughter-in-law who I am actually working on my own book with as we speak. I harbor no ill will, it was just him having fun and teasing me playfully.<\/p>\n

Besides, wait\u2019ll you see what I put Edgar through in Star Thrust 3. So sit back, relax, and read this book.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n
