Her heart started racing. And it felt like the walls of the hallway were beginning to press in on her. \u201cHey, baby? Are you okay?\u201d Eli asked. \u201cArabella? What\u2019s wrong?\u201d Kellan demanded. \u201cShit, she\u2019s not breathing properly!\u201d Eli said. \u201cArabella,\u201d Kellan said firmly, taking hold of her right hand and squeezing.<\/p>\n

\u201cI need you to listen to me and do as you\u2019re told.\u201d Do as she was told? The surge of temper actually cleared some of the panic in her mind. Or maybe that was due to the way he was holding her hand. \u201cTake a deep breath in, now let it out slowly.<\/p>\n

That\u2019s it. Follow my directions. Deep breath in slowly, two three, out slowly, two three. And again. In, two, three, out, two, three. It\u2019s okay, Horse.\u201d She suddenly realized that strange noise was Horse. And that he was licking her free hand. She glanced down at him and felt her breathing ease.<\/p>\n

Putting her hand on his head, she let him ground her. She wasn\u2019t certain when she\u2019d let go of his collar, but he\u2019d stayed beside her the entire time, helping her. Lord, he really was her best friend. She was so lucky that she\u2019d found him. Finally, her breathing eased and her heart stopped racing so hard. She closed her eyes for a long moment, then opened them.<\/p>\n

That was embarrassing. She tried her best to hide her horror at what had just happened but knew she\u2019d likely failed when she saw the concern in their faces. Well, Kellan looked as calm as always \u201cAre you okay?\u201d Duncan asked. \u201cI\u2019m fine. Sorry. I just . . . it\u2019s been a lot.\u201d Duncan nodded. \u201cI get that. The storm and the power going out would be scary and a lot to deal with.\u201d And yet neither of those things were the reason she\u2019d had a panic attack. Nope.<\/p>\n

That was all due to the two men standing right there, staring at her. \u201cDo you need anything? You probably don\u2019t know if any repairs are needed yet, but is there anything else?\u201d Duncan asked. \u201cAhh, no. I think I just need to try and get some sleep and then I\u2019ll assess everything. Thank you for checking on me.\u201d \u201cOf course. If there is anything you need let me know. I\u2019ll give you my number. Do you have your phone?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cUm, yes, I\u2019ll find it.\u201d \u201cHey, if she needs anything we\u2019re here and we can provide it,\u201d Eli protested. \u201cThat what you want, Ms. Bridges?\u201d Duncan asked.<\/p>\n
