Holy crap — 20+ missed calls from Ishaan, 5+ from Aman, and tons of texts from all three of them. We’d gone incognito for just two hours, and they’d completely lost it.

“Okay, what’s the problem?” I asked, folding my arms as the three stood awkwardly on the doorstep. They all looked at each other before speaking in a jumble of words, sounding like gibberish. “Okay, gentlemen, one by one, please,” Aisha commanded, folding her arms with an amused smile.

“We tried calling, but you all didn’t pick up. I panicked and called Ishaan,” Aman started nervously. “Then I tried calling you, but no response, so we all rushed here,” Ishaan added sheepishly. “Too cute you people are,” Aisha said, pinching both Ishaan’s and Aman’s cheeks while they swatted her hands away, laughing. Chapter 18 – Ishaan I was in my room after dinner.

Maa had made dinner today, which was an absolute treat—comforting dal, fluffy rotis, and some spicy sabzi that made my taste buds dance. To top it all off, I ate ice cream afterward, so technically, it was a complete meal. I leaned back on my chair, feeling the warmth of the evening settle in. Out of nowhere, my phone buzzed. It was Aman. “Hey, is Kaira with you? Or are you with them?” His voice was sharp, edged with urgency. “Nope, I’m at home. What happened?” I asked, trying to keep my voice steady.

“Well, they’re not reachable. Me and Krish have tried calling a thousand times, and none of the three are picking up.” Aman’s words set every sense in me to full alert mode. “We’re going there now. You come too.” And just like that, he cut the call. I didn’t waste a second. I instantly started dialing Kaira’s number, then Aisha’s. No answer. Just ringing, ringing, ringing—all the way to the end. In less than twenty minutes, I was standing in front of their apartment building.

Aman and Krish stepped out of the elevator as I hurried in behind them. Aman quickly opened the door—they were lucky he knew the password.

Love Me Like You Do Chapter 01 – Kaira All these egoistic people I had to deal with today almost made me question my sanity—again. It’s like every time I try to maintain a shred of peace, some self-important human tornado decides to swirl right into my personal space. But then, just when I feel like losing my mind entirely, my best friends show up with their own brand of craziness, and suddenly I’m reminded: Oh right. I’m not sane to begin with. And neither are they. Hi people, I’m Kaira Bhardwaj, and welcome to my beautifully messed-up life.

“Kairaaaaa!” That voice. That pitch. That sheer decibel level. Aisha screamed my name in my ear like a human fire alarm, nearly sending my soul sprinting out of my body. “Woman! If you want to murder me, just stab me like a normal psychopath. Why go through the trouble of destroying my eardrums?” I groaned, dragging myself out of bed with the grace of a hungover sloth.

“O Miss Drama Queen, you’re gonna be late for work. It’s already 8:30, and you need to report by 10,” Aisha said, sounding way too cheerful for someone delivering tragic news. “Did Avi leave?” I mumbled while grabbing my towel and heading into the bathroom, slamming the door behind me with a grumpy thud. “Yes, ma’am. She left fifteen minutes ago, all suited up and ready to conquer the world with her data-crunching powers,” Aisha replied from the other side of the door.

So, for a quick little insight into our sitcom of a life: I, Aisha (aka Aishu), and Avni (aka the silent killer with Excel sheets) share a cozy 3BHK apartment in London. It’s perfectly equidistant from all our workplaces, which means no one gets to complain about commute injustice. Avni works as a data analyst—basically, she breathes in binary and exhales solutions. You’ll probably find her muttering formulas in her sleep.

Aisha, on the other end of the universe, is a counselling psychologist who practically lives in cafes, therapy rooms, and people’s minds. And then there’s me. I float somewhere in between—a hybrid. I need my laptop, my phone, and unfortunately, a lot of people interaction. I work as the Second Secretary at the Indian Embassy in the United Kingdom. Sounds fancy? It is. But it’s also exhausting. Like, soul-level exhausting. Anyway, today’s chaos began with Aisha’s brutal honesty and my complete lack of punctuality.

“Don’t you have work today?” I asked, zipping up my bag while stuffing my charger, lip balm, and whatnot inside like I was in a speed-packing competition. “First session’s at twelve. I think I’ll clean the apartment a bit,” she said casually. I froze and gave her a suspicious glare. The last time she “cleaned” the place, we spent a full hour searching for the lighter on her birthday.

She’d rearranged everything so well even Sherlock Holmes would’ve cried. “Don’t worry, I won’t move anything.

This is a short excerpt from the opening of “” by Unknown, quoted for review and introduction purposes.
