The girl who told her everything, all of her secrets. Norah felt tears burn hot down her cheeks as she recalled the last moments of Peggy\u2019s life, lying in her bed full of pain and guilt over how much Amelia hadn\u2019t deserved what she did to her. If only she could apologize.<\/p>\n

If only she could take it all back. Norah shook her head and wiped her cheeks as the visions and the feelings of Peggy\u2019s life faded. Her surroundings came back to her. The birds still chirped, the leaves still rustled, the sun still hit her cheeks. What the fuck was happening? There was no denying it that time.<\/p>\n

Arriving at Norah\u2019s unannounced was either going to be a very good idea or a massively terrible one. She shifted the weight of the basket onto her right arm and knocked once more. The apartment door opened, and Celeste braced herself for a\u2026surprisingly welcoming Norah? \u201cWhat\u2019s up?\u201d asked Norah after an initial look of surprise, a sharp intake of breath, and what Celeste knew to be a look of forced indifference.<\/p>\n

Okay, so not welcoming exactly, but certainly not the wrath she had been expecting. \u201cHi, mind if I come in for a minute?\u201d Norah\u2019s eyes fell on the basket Celeste held before stepping aside and waving her in. \u201cI won\u2019t stay long,\u201d Celeste continued, filling the dead space between them as she walked through the door. \u201cI know you don\u2019t want to talk to me.\u201d Norah bit at her lower lip and dropped her gaze.<\/p>\n

Celeste waited for Norah to speak, but when she didn\u2019t, she said, \u201cI needed to tell you again how sorry I am, and I also thought it would be helpful if I could show you that I was telling the truth.\u201d Celeste settled herself on the couch and scanned the room. Being in this apartment was as surreal to her as it was the first time she saw Norah in person. She\u2019d seen this apartment so many times these last few years, but now she was there. It was a real space.<\/p>\n

A deep crease formed along Norah\u2019s brow. \u201cWhat do you mean, show me?\u201d \u201cWell,\u201d Celeste started, handing Norah the basket she brought. \u201cI know that I am late on this, but I also know that on Sam\u2019s anniversary, you watch The Goonies every year because it was his favorite movie.\u201d Norah paused, opening the basket to look up at Celeste, a look of confusion on her face.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd I know that you do that because you two spent years having Friday movie nights. At first, it was in homemade sheet tents in Sam\u2019s bedroom, which turned into giant pillow beds on Sam\u2019s bedroom floor, which then moved to dorm rooms and your shared apartment on Greystone Avenue.\u201d<\/p>\n
