I must have drifted off because I startle at the dip of his weight on the mattress as he braces himself over me with one hand. \u201cIt\u2019s just me,\u201d Beck whispers, and then he brushes my hair back away from my forehead and dabs gently at my skin with the wet cloth. There\u2019s something different about the way he smells\u2014something anxious, almost shy. I furrow my brows and breathe in deep, trying to place where I\u2019ve smelled it before, but before I can say anything, Beck is back in motion.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ll be downstairs, okay? Text me if you\u2014\u201d \u201cStay.\u201d It\u2019s not a question or a request. I want him here, with me. Just like I wanted Theo earlier this morning. I open my eyes and reach for him. Beck\u2019s hands flex at his sides but, after a beat, he moves close enough for me to take him by the wrist.<\/p>\n

I push myself into the center of the mattress, making room for Beck on my side of the bed, and then I curl around him the best I can with him laying on top of the covers. \u201cJust until you fall asleep,\u201d Beck says. It\u2019s more to himself than to me, but I don\u2019t care.<\/p>\n
