Is Georgiana feeling any better?” He sighed as he turned toward the window. “She will not speak of what happened while she was in Wickham’s company and that concerns me. “I fear that the damage he has caused her may not be physical, but emotional.” Elizabeth took a step closer to him. She could see the pain etched on his face and knew that he was suffering deeply. “I am sure that with time and care, she will recover,” Elizabeth said, putting a hand on his arm.

“You must give her time. I am sure she must be feeling terribly vulnerable right now.” He turned to look at her with an intense gaze, his eyes filled with a mixture of sadness and anger. “I cannot help but feel that I have failed as her brother. That I should have protected her better.” Elizabeth’s heart went out to him, and she stepped closer to him, gazing up into his eyes. “You did everything you could, Mr. Darcy.

And you found her before anything truly awful happened.” Before she could say anything, he stepped closer to her, closing the distance between them. She could feel his warm breath on her face as he leaned in closer. For a moment, Elizabeth forgot about everything else and could only think about the man standing in front of her.

But just as quickly as it had begun, he pulled away from her. “I am sorry, Elizabeth. I should not have…I am not myself,” he said, running a hand through his hair. She smiled softly at him before turning towards the window as well. “It is getting quite late. I should retire for the evening.” Mr. Darcy nodded in agreement before turning to face her fully. “Would it be presumptuous of me to ask if you would care to share supper with me tomorrow evening?

As a small token of my gratitude for all that you have done?” Elizabeth felt her cheeks flush, but she tried not to let it show. “That would be lovely. Thank you.” As Elizabeth fell asleep that night in her soft Pemberley bed, she could not help but think of young Georgiana Darcy, and hoped the next day brought the girl some measure of the normalcy she had missed in London. Perhaps it could bring all of them that. 1kitap1.com/en hen Elizabeth attempted to join the household for breakfast the next morning, she was surprised to find Charles and Fitzwilliam in the library.

They were huddled together over the desk and it appeared as if they were plotting something. When they saw her, they both ceased speaking immediately. “Good morning, gentleman,” she said as she walked in. They looked surprised but Mr. Darcy composed himself quickly. “Good morning, Elizabeth. Did you sleep well?” he asked politely. “I slept very well, thank you.

And you both?” Elizabeth asked with a curious smile. Darcy’s expression remained stoic.

lizabeth! Elizabeth, a letter arrived for you!” Elizabeth Bennet sat in her father’s study, the only room in the whole of Longbourn where he youngest sisters left her in peace. Ever since their oldest sister, Jane, married in the spring, Elizabeth felt as if she had become the Bennet family project. Between her mother’s constant meddling and Lydia and Kitty’s obsession with her love life, she felt as if she was the only topic of conversation within the walls of her home.

When she escaped to the study to read, Elizabeth felt as if she were free of the expectation of the rest of her family. But, as usual, Lydia did not wish to respect her privacy. “Elizabeth,” Lydia shouted through the closed door again. “I said you have a letter! Do you wish to read it now?” Elizabeth sighed as she set her book down. “Surely, it could have waited until later. I only asked for an hour alone to finish my book.” “It is from Jane!” Well, that is a different story entirely.

As soon as Jane married Charles Bingley in April, her sister left for an extended stay in Scotland. The newly weds were due to return any day now, so Elizabeth was surprised to receive a letter now. Excitement swelled in Elizabeth’s chest as she reached for the letter. Her siblings’ chatter outside the study faded, and all she could focus on was the news from her beloved sister.

Her hands shook as she broke the seal and unfolded the paper. The familiar handwriting danced across the pages, filling her with joy and longing for her sister. She could almost sense Jane’s comforting presence in the room with her. My dearest Lizzy, I hope this letter finds you well. I have news to share that may surprise you! Charles and I have elected to spend the upcoming summer season at Pemberley Manor in the company of Mr. Fitzwilliam Darcy.

Elizabeth’s heart skipped a beat at the mention of Mr. Darcy’s name. She had not seen him since he proposed to her and she had refused him. Although at the time, Elizabeth had thought she would never want to set eyes on him again, as more time passed, she found herself struggling to forget him completely.

His haughty demeanor had not been enough to extinguish the spark of interest that had flickered to life between them. Pemberley Manor, however, was a place she had always wanted to see.

This is a short excerpt from the opening of “” by Unknown, quoted for review and introduction purposes.
