This is probably the fastest-building of the rag rug techniques in this book. In fact, the Highlands Rug on page 88 only took me a day and half to make, which is the fastest I\u2019ve ever made an entire rug! 1kitap1.com\/en Peg loom A peg loom is a heavy block of wood with holes drilled at regular intervals across its length.<\/p>\n

Each hole supports a removable \u201cpeg\u201d with a small hole near its base. These pegs are usually wooden or plastic and the warp is passed through the small hole in each peg (see page 83 for how to warp the peg loom). Peg looms can be bought in different lengths. Regardless of the peg loom size, you can make your weaving as long as you would like, but the length of your loom dictates the maximum width your woven piece will be.<\/p>\n

For example, a 24in (60cm) peg loom will make rugs that are a maximum of 24in (60cm) wide, but as long as you would like. You can work part-way across a peg loom if you would like to make narrower pieces, so you can make smaller items on a larger loom, but not the reverse. As well as coming in different lengths, peg looms are sold with different sized pegs, spaced at different intervals. Generally, thinner and closer-spaced pegs are used for finer materials, such as yarn and lightweight fabric, and thicker, wider-spaced pegs are used to weave with chunkier materials.<\/p>\n

Typically, when working with lightweight fabrics, the pegs are around \u00bcin (6mm) in diameter and spaced \u00bdin (12mm) apart. When working with thick fabrics, the pegs are around \u215cin (9mm) in diameter and spaced approximately 1in (25mm) apart. However, the precise size and spacing of the pegs isn\u2019t crucial as you can cut fabric wider or narrower to compensate. If you want true flexibility, you can buy peg looms with multiple rows of holes. These come with different sets of pegs that fit into corresponding rows.<\/p>\n

This means that your peg loom can be used for all weights of yarn or fabric without the need to buy multiple looms. See each individual project for the details of how far my pegs were spaced apart. The spacing depends on the thickness of fabric I was working with for that particular project.<\/p>\n
