He would not barge into her room, no matter how urgent the need. He did not trust himself to be alone with her in a bedroom again, and he could not take that kind of risk right now.<\/p>\n

There was no answer, so he knocked again. \u201cThalia! Thalia, this is important. Open the door!\u201d The door finally swung open to reveal a disoriented Thalia. \u201cFinlay? What are ye doing here so\u2060\u2014\u201d \u201cDaisy is gone.\u201d She straightened, all signs of sleepiness gone. \u201cWhat do ye mean she\u2019s gone? She ran away again?\u201d Finlay nodded. \u201cAye, ye are the last person who saw her. I need to ken how long ago that was.\u201d Her eyebrows drew together. \u201cI\u2026 I showed her how to make the tea, and then we delivered it to Rowena.<\/p>\n

Daisy was happy about it, and then we spent a few more hours together as she practiced her writing\u2026\u201d She shook her head in frustration. \u201cI didnae see her at dinner. I ate with Ava, and Daisy said she wanted to eat with Rowena again.\u201d Finlay\u2019s lips pressed into a hard line. Hours. He had been so wrapped up in trying to avoid Thalia that he had allowed his daughter to put herself in danger again. \u201cIf this is yer uncle\u2019s fault, he is a dead man,\u201d he hissed.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ll be back soon. Send out a messenger if she shows up before I return.\u201d He turned to leave, only to be stopped by a hand grasping his arm. \u201cWait. Take me with ye,\u201d she demanded. Finlay scoffed. \u201cNay.\u201d \u201cI want to help.\u201d She placed her hands on her hips, stubborn as ever. \u201cYe\u2019ll only get in the way,\u201d he argued.<\/p>\n

She jutted her chin defiantly. \u201cI ken me way around the woods. I\u2019m a healer, remember? Besides, I\u2019ve already spent a few days in the forest here. She may nae have gotten very far.\u201d \u201cI cannae have ye slowin\u2019 us down,\u201d Finlay insisted. \u201cI promise ye I willnae,\u201d she assured him. He searched her face carefully, finding only that stubbornness that he couldn\u2019t help but admire. Perhaps it would be best if she came with them.<\/p>\n

Hearing Thalia\u2019s voice call out her name may help lure Daisy out of wherever she was hiding. He gave a heavy sigh. \u201cFine. Ye had better get dressed quickly, then meet me by the stables in less than twenty minutes. Or else I\u2019ll leave without ye.\u201d Thalia nodded and closed the door in his face. Finlay headed out for the stables, trying to tell himself that it would all work out.<\/p>\n
