But if it is you don’t want to be hurt, then you’ll do as we say!’ Realisation came to Elisha – the roadworkers! Fear clutched her.

‘Naw, naw, leave me alone!’ Struggling to get away from him, Elisha called over to Jack. ‘Jack, what’s happening?’ Jack could only make a noise in his throat, but his tears spoke volumes. A hand gripped Elisha’s arm. ‘Naw, please. Please don’t.’ Kicking out, she caught the man on his leg and he let go, yelping in pain, but then filled with anger and lashed out, knocking her back to the ground.

‘Give it to her, Rory, lad. Isn’t it that she was made for it. Look at those breasts, they’re crying out to be released.’ This unleashed all hell for Elisha as her frock was torn open and her bodice ripped apart. Her world seemed to end with this exposure but then plummeted even further as the man attacking her grabbed at her.

For Elisha, she died at that moment. Tears tumbled down her face, caught in her throat and choked her as he violated her body. At last her ordeal ended, marked by his guttural cries of agonising pleasure. His weight on her increased as he slumped down on her harder than before and then rolled off. ‘Sure, it’s my turn. Hasn’t watching you given me the strongest urge.’ Elisha’s ‘Naw’ came out as a whimper, she tried to roll away, but the second man held her in a grip that prevented her.

Kicking out didn’t help. His slap stung her face and rendered her unable to fight. During his taking of her, she cried and begged him to stop. ‘Aye, beg me, yes, beg me.’ With this gasp, he stiffened and cried out in a holler that told her it was over. Ashamed beyond anything she’d ever felt, Elisha glanced over at Jack.

Sobs racked his body. Anger seared through Elisha.

Maggie Mason is a pseudonym of author Mary Wood. Mary began her career by self-publishing on Kindle, where many of her sagas reached number one in genre. She was spotted by Pan Macmillan and to date has written many books for them under her own name. Mary continues to be proud to write for Pan Macmillan, but is now equally proud and thrilled to take up a second career with Sphere under the name of Maggie Mason.

Born the thirteenth child of fifteen children, Mary describes her childhood as poor, but rich in love. She was educated at St Peter’s RC School in Hinckley and at Hinckley College for Further Education, where she was taught shorthand and typing. Mary retired from working for the National Probation Service in 2009, when she took up full-time writing, something she’d always dreamed of doing. She follows in the footsteps of her great-grandmother, Dora Langlois, who was an acclaimed author, playwright and actress in the late nineteenth–early twentieth century.

It was her work with the Probation Service that gives Mary’s writing its grittiness, her need to tell it how it is, which takes her readers on an emotional journey to the heart of issues. 1kitap1.com/en Also by Maggie Mason Blackpool Lass Blackpool’s Daughter Blackpool’s Angel Blackpool Sisters A Blackpool Christmas The Halfpenny Girls The Halfpenny Girls at Christmas The Halfpenny Girls at War The Fortune Tellers The Fortune Tellers’ Secret The Fortune Tellers’ Daughters A Mother’s Hope As Mary Wood An Unbreakable Bond To Catch a Dream Tomorrow Brings Sorrow Time Passes Time Proud of You All I Have to Give In Their Mother’s Footsteps Brighter Days Ahead The Street Orphans The Forgotten Daughter The Abandoned Daughter The Wronged Daughter The Brave Daughters The Jam Factory Girls The Orphanage Girls The Orphanage Girls Reunited The Orphanage Girls Come Home The Guernsey Girls The Guernsey Girls Go to War The Guernsey Girls Find Peace 1kitap1.com/en A Daughter’s Dream MAGGIE MASON 1kitap1.com/en SPHERE First published in Great Britain in 2026 by Sphere Copyright © Maggie Mason Ltd 2026 The moral right of the author has been asserted.

All characters and events in this publication, other than those clearly in the public domain, are fictitious and any resemblance to real persons, living or dead, is purely coincidental.
